((CMO's Office, Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

Beck: Excellent. Consider yourself hired.

Shortrith: Any chance you could elaborate?

Beck: Well, that depends greatly on what exactly you would be interested in learning. There are a lot of different avenues. You could stay focused on just patient diagnosis and treatment, or you could expand to something more complex like surgery.

Letting out a loose chuckle, Renaie smirked.

oO One of my main specialties is general surgery and the other is diagnoses… Oo

Shortrith: ::light-heartedly:: I've done some surgery and diagnoses, I could always sharpen my focus…

They drifted off with a smile.

Beck: Optionally, you could focus on a specific part of the anatomy and try to become something of a specialist - like me, my primary focus has always been neuro, but my skills cover a wider range than that. Being a Counselor, though, that might end up taking more of your time than you want. Still worth considering.

Shortrith: I'll probably have to mull over the specifics, but I'm happy to finesse my medical skills.

Beck: There's also always the research track. That leans a little more towards Science in some cases, depending on what it is you're wanting to research, but the work can be good and fulfilling. That's some of what I've been doing with Division 14. ::a beat:: Anything sound good?

Shortrith: I did do a little bit of research when I had some spare time on the Astraeus… ::they let out a dry, slightly sad laugh:: The only downside is they all sound good.

Beck: Spoiled for choice? If only everything was like that. ::shrugging a shoulder:: Still - there's gotta be some preference, right?

Shortrith: Maybe finessing my surgical skills?

Renaie had a small wave of hope and optimism bloom inside them.

Beck: Considering you've got two of Starfleets finest Surgeons on the Ronin right now, I think that's a great choice. Lieutenant Commander Kel knows what he's doing, and Thessalonia…

He sighed, shaking his head a little and rubbing his fingers into his eyes.

Beck: She's the lead surgeon for Division 14 for a reason. Anyway.

Renaie offered a solid hand to shake, smiling.

Shortrith: You've got me sold.

Beck: Excellente. I will see about arranging some time to work with one of them, and if you decide there's anything else you want to pursue, just let me know. There's lots of opportunities to learn on a ship like the Ronin.

Their smile opened into a beaming grin, so grateful for the opportunity.

Shortrith: Will do. Thank you for considering me.

They glanced down at the Doctor's cat, smiling a little wider as she mewed to them, and offered their hand to her to be sniffed.

Beck: She likes you. That's pretty good, considering - she usually gives new people the cold shoulder until after they give her a treat.

Shortrith: ::chuckling:: Obviously I'm doing something right.

Beck: Frankly, I trust her judgment more than a lot of people out there. She can usually tell.

He reached out to carefully collect the ragamuffin kitty, tucking her into his arms and stroking the back of her head.

Beck: Go get some rest. We'll talk again later.

Shortrith: You too, Doc. See you later.

Renaie gave one last friendly wave before exiting sickbay, the CMO reins successfully handed over.
