He let his bag drop and stiffened his posture as was expected when reporting to a senior officer. All the while, his eyes moved calmly and methodically around the room. He took in each individual and assessed the general layout, trying to get a feel for the situation.

Valo: Aye. Ensign Cecil Valo, reporting for duty.

MacKenna: Heck of a time...

His eyes darted toward the comment and then to the snort from her cohort. Had he missed some joke?

Stergis:  Commander Agatha Stergis, welcome aboard Ensign.  If you were trying to report to the Ronin or the Khitomer your shuttle was a bit late.

Raga: Not surprising given all that’s going on. To that point, we’re preparing the station for a more than ninety percent chance that it’ll be assaulted soon.

He listened and offered a faint grimace and a nod. With such a dire welcome the Betazoid wasn’t entirely sure what to say. Why the light hearted platitudes if the situation was so serious? He wasn’t sure whether to doubt them or admire them. Maybe they were just cool under pressure. He could roll with that.

Valo: Sounds like someone better issue me a weapon then.

Raga: That, Ensign we have no shortage of.

Stergis:  Commander Raga is on loan from the Ronin temporarily, you'll be reporting to him as part of the defense team.  Best case scenario you're going to have a very boring first day.  Worst case...well...let's not dwell on that just now.

That definitely raised a few questions, but a chirp from the third Commander’s console stole the show.

MacKenna: The Ronin and Khitomer have engaged the Lattice Alliance. The avalanche has begun.

Valo: oO Lettuce Alliance..? Oo

That didn’t sound too threatening. Maybe some kind of trade embargo was being enforced on produce?

Stergis:  Good fortune to them both.  Let's hope that...

Another chime of interruption brought a bit more severity to the picture in Cecil’s mind as he listened to the dire report. It was definitely no angry cabbage merchant they were dealing with.

He had figured his day would be spent saluting department heads and dealing with annoying medical types wanting to prod and probe his capability to perform. Instead, a massive fleet of ships was barrelling toward him, its intentions didn’t take a telepath to predict. Though of course, he WAS a telepath, and the other officers in the room displayed pretty clear emotions. The kind that usually came with choice words. He elected to think a few himself, and he thought them pretty loudly.

The notification of their impending doom complete, he looked to Stergis as she spoke.

Stergis:  You heard the Major, bring the station to full tactical alert.  Commanders, Ensign, it looks like you'll be riding out the storm with us.  Get to your defensive positions, we don't have a lot of time.  And Commander Raga...

Their shared gaze was palpable.

Stergis:  Make sure those scuttling charges are set.  The Lattice Alliance just turned this into a siege.  Whatever happens today...they're not taking this station intact.

Raga: Ni batalos; Ni tenos la linion; kaj kiam venos la tempo, ni lasos nenion krom derompaĵoj.* Today we’re not just Ronin Strong, we’re Starfleet strong. ::He offered them all an empathetic glance then regarded Valo:: Ensign, with me. We’ve got preparations to make.

Cecil just nodded an acknowledgement. The Betazoid was pretty sure he didn’t qualify as Ronin strong yet. Honestly, he was more stunned at the reality of his first day than he wanted to show.

MacKenna: Response?

Following the Commander to the lift, he offered him his full attention.

Raga: I hope you weren’t expecting that uniform to stay that crisp, Ensign. If even half of what I estimated is heading this way we’re going to be busy and in the thick of it.

Valo: Sounds like an understatement, sir.

Raga’s comm badge chirped.

Kiran: =/\= Chief Kiran to Commander Raga. =/\=

Raga: =/\= Go ahead, Chief. I take it you’ve planted our backups?  =/\=

Kiran:  =/\= Aye sir, checking and making sure you’re receiving. =/\=

As the lift zoomed about to its destination, Cecil couldn’t help but watch as the Commander inspected his pair of weapons. His expression was unconsciously similar to that of a child watching another kid on his new bike while he was stuck walking to school. Hopefully, he would get a shiny new laser gun of his own soon.

Raga: =/\= We just left the Command Center, but all the feeds looked good.  =/\=

Kiran: =/\= Good to know, Commander. What’s next, sir? =/\=

Raga: =/\= Regroup at the FOP, on the double. We’re heading there now.  =/\=

Kiran: =/\= Aye, sir. We’ll head back in your direction. Rork out. =/\=
