to USS Ronin – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Sickbay Ward 5, Deck 16, USS Blackheart))
Ships. She'd always hated ships. No...hatred was too small a word to fully encapsulate the fullness of her contempt for the things.
Doctor Thessolonia Samantha de la Croix, MD, PHD, FASFS, Duchess of Saint-Malo and Division 14's Surgeon in Chief, rarely found herself called to serve in a venue as comprehensively unimpressive as a singular vessel. Typically her duties included overseeing the whole of D14s surgical programs, spread over a variety of planetary installations and starbases, with the occasional call for her legendary personal expertise on matters of micro-cellular grafting and atypical gnomic structures. Yet it was that very expertise that had compelled her to board this ramshackle vessel, leaving her very well appointed suite of offices and her small army of personal staff behind. Her expertiese...and a single name which appeared with distressing frequency on all of the research data which Division 14 was now pouring over with rapt fascination.
Her door chimed in that annoying way all Starfleet doors did and she set down her antique porcelain tea cup in its matching saucer, one of her few luxuries aboard brought all the way from her estates, and settled her expression into a smile which had been described by terrified interns as 'predatory' and 'unnerving' for years.
She wanted to make her guest feel right at home.
De La Croix: Enter.
The mustachio'd coward peeked in like some child afraid caught stealing a sweet from the house kitchens before marshaling his small measure of courage and coming before her lackluster desk.
Beck: Lieutenant Commander Quentin Beck, arriving as requested.
All but purring like the cat who enjoys playing with their meal before devouring it, Thessolonia's reply was short and sweet and oh so delicious.
De La Croix: Hello...Beckie.
Beck: You.
Her musical titter of laughter contained everything but humor. Her day was truly looking up.
De La Croix: As you well know Beckie, the proper form of address is 'The Honorable Duchess of Saint-Malo,' but of course I'd never make my friends use something so archaic. For you, though...I'm more than happy to make an exception.
Beck: Response
The trip had been worth it just to see the stupefied expression on his bland, nearly featureless face. She'd assumed the mustache had been some misguided attempt to add character or gravitas, neither of which it had managed.
De La Croix: None other, Beckie. It seems your little ship needed some real expertise for once and, fortunately for you, I happened to have a small window in my schedule. I'm certain you feel suitably grateful.
Beck: Response
With a theatrical sigh she inclined her perfect chin slightly and tapped at a padd with the edge of a single fingernail, the clicking loud in the otherwise silent compartment.
De La Croix: Diverting as it is to watch you stammer your way through a conversation I did have another purpose for this meeting. Do you really expect me to believe this is your work, Beckie?
She slid the padd containing the sum total of the Ronin's recent research with a measure of delicious contempt.
Beck: Response
