((Rondon Falls, Lower Level, Endicronimas V))
Jack was sure what to think; both the Bolian and Ferengi were out cold, though the Ferengi didn’t look as bad as the Bolian with a disrupter shot to the solar plexus. He scanned the immediate area, and the only weapon he found was the Ferengi’s whip, which he knew was a nasty thing to be sure. But that didn’t explain the disruptor blast.
The Ronin’s Chief of Security pulled him out of his thoughts.
Kessler: Could this have been a dispute between these two, or are we looking at a third party firing on them?
It was a good question, one he had been thinking about too. What exactly were they doing on this ledge? He looked up and saw Kessler, and it would have been a dangerous fall, so it still wasn't clear how they ended up there. Oh, and he was starting to get hungry. He took a quick inventory of what he had on him to defend himself besides the cricket phaser. He had his knife, and that was about it; he didn’t usually pack a phaser with him, but he might the next time.
Morrow: I’m going to have to say, third party. The Ferengi had his whip, but it didn’t look like it had ever been used. Which could suggest they knew their assailants.
Kessler: That's not the best of news. Are either of them trapped or can they be transported directly to the Ronin?
Jack checked on the Bolian; life signs were thready, but he was still breathing. He was pretty sure the Ferengi suffered some sort of blunt force trauma that knocked him out. So his vitals were as normal are you can get as a Ferengi.
Morrow: No, they can be transported. It still begs the question, how did they get down here and why? Seems an odd place to conduct business.
Kessler: Jack, watch the vitals on the Bolian. I am clipping a line bag to the descent line and sending down several transport enhancer tags.
Jack nodded, though he was pretty sure Kessler couldn’t see him. Sure enough, down came the transporter tags. The Bolian was just barely hanging on, and the Feregni, amazingly enough, was still out like a light. And he could see the extra bump in the Ferengi’s noggin.
For the first time since replelled down, he was starting to get a little nervous. The last thing they needed was for whoever did the deed to come back to finish the job. Jack was armed, but he was a lawyer, not a weapons expert. He did his training every year as required, but he had little range time. He opened the bag of transporter tags, putting one on the Bolian, the other on the Frenegi.
Morrow: ::he called up to Kessler:: They’re tagged, and I’d like them to get out of here as soon as possible. We have to face the fact that whoever did this might be returning. I find some tracks leading off down this lower trail, deeper into the forest.
Kessler: =/= Kessler to Ronin. Security alert, my location. We have two male humanoids injured from what appears to be disruptor fire. One Bolian, one Ferengi. Lieutenant Morrow is on a descent line over a cliff face now, providing medical triage and tagging the two with transport enhancers. Prepare for emergency transport on his mark.=/= ::taking a breath and looking around:: Jack, Ronin is standing by for your call.
Jack ran the tricorder over the Bolian; he was middle-aged and seemed in perfect health, except for the disruptor burn on his chest. He was lucky they found the two when they did, a bit longer, and the Bolian would be pushing up daisies.
SNAP!!
The loud snap on a branch echoed slightly, hopefully enough that Kessler could hear from his location, if there were time to beam them out, now would be the time. Jack didn’t feel safe anymore and also would prefer to beam these gentlemen in a quick hurry.
Ronin: =/= Standing by, do you need Security forces on the ground, Lieutenant Kessler? =/=
He couldn’t see Kessler at the moment, but it was quiet on his end after the call came in from the Ronin for extra security, which, honestly, Jack hoped they wouldn’t be needed. He kept his phaser trained down the trail he found himself on.
Kessler: =/= Standby on Security reinforcements Ronin.=/=
Morrow: =/\= Ronin, two to beam to sick— =/\=
Before he could finish his sentence, the Fregengi got to his feet in one swift motion. He’d never seen a Ferengi who was so nimble. His hand went to his hip, where his whip had been. The Ferengi decided to charge Morrow, only to disappear on a shimmer of blue light, in mid-air leap.
Kessler: Response
Jack sat back on his haunches as that Feregni had come close to tackling him. Both bodies were gone, but it didn’t seem like the threat went away.
Morrow: Well (beat) that was close…
Jack dusted off his tactical pants, phaser still in his hand. There was more rustling, and his first instinct was to start the climb back up, but he didn’t want to get caught halfway up the cliff, swinging there like a nice juicy target.
Kessler: Response
Morrow: =/\= Look out that Ferengi incoming lept at me at the last second, so he’ll be mid flight.. =/\=
Jack winced, knowing that Ferengi was going to get a rude awaking when he rematerialized. He didn’t envy the security team at the moment, but what was getting him was the movement. He kept his phaser trained down trail.
Kessler: Response
Morrow: So I’ve got movement down here, it’s down trail but I’m pretty sure it’s headed my way. I can’t get a decent reading on it. I’m assuming it’s either someone returning to finish the job or wildlife.
Kessler: Response
