((OOC: Reposting because I accidentally used the wrong closeoff))

((Renaie & Dom’s Quarters, Sector 03, Deck 05, USS Ronin))

Ślimak: ::warming again, eyes lighting up:: That’s really cool. I love things like that. Maybe you can teach me sometime? Oh, tea is ready.

She tossed it back to them underhand, which they caught with their non-dominant hand.

Shortrith: I'd be honoured to teach you. I'm excited for the tea.

Renaie followed Dom to the small desk, taking a seat for themself as she took hers.

Ślimak: So, tell me more about yourself, Renaie. What is it like being a ship’s counsellor?

Shortrith: Honestly, it's unusual, but I trained for this. I get to see raw, unfiltered sides of the crew that they usually keep guarded from others. It can be confronting at times, sure. But the way I help other people is certainly rewarding.

They stopped to take a sip of the tea. It was a wonderful explosion of taste as they drank, the lemon a tasty compliment to whatever type of tea leaves were in the bag.

Ślimak: ::eyes widening a touch:: Wow. Okay—yeah, that sounds like… ::lifting her cup slightly:: …a lot of responsibility. So you’re kind of like part of the ship’s emotional damage control system?

Shortrith: In a way, I suppose. I was a medical officer before I transferred here, and I had more education as a Doctor than a Counsellor. However, I trained as a counsellor for a reason, so I'm ready for whatever this throws at me.

A smile grew on Renaie's face as they spoke.

Ślimak: Renaie, that’s… brave. Or terrifying. Or both. ::grinning:: So you went from fixing bodies to fixing feelings?

Shortrith: When you put it like that, yeah.

They took a sip of tea and smiled into their cup.

Shortrith: You said you had questions about Australia?

Ślimak: Oh! Yeah— ::leaning forward, clearly delighted:: —I’ve never been. Everyone talks about it like it’s either paradise or actively trying to kill you. Which one is it?

Shortrith: Don't believe the horror stories too much, the deadly things are either out in the scrub, in the water, or when it's very hot. I've gone months, if not years, without seeing any snakes or spiders. It's a nice place, save for some natural disasters that occur sometimes…

Renaie tried to glaze over the natural disaster bit, but they had to mention it otherwise they were being dishonest.

Ślimak: ::laughing:: See, that tracks. Engineering’s like that. Marvellous, intricate systems that do all these incredible things for us—fly through space, go to warp, recycle our shi— ::she coughed, grinning:: —waste. But if you’re not paying attention, they can explode.

Renaie chuckled as Dom set her cup down and illustrated an explosion with her fingers and face.

Shortrith: It seems like everything can explode. Hopefully our friendship won't negatively do that.

Renaie chuckled as they spoke, and grinned back at Dom after she grinned at them.

Ślimak: ::thoughtfully:: However long we end up as roommates before Ops realises they’ve got a wrench monkey stowaway in officer quarters, I think we’ll get along like a warpcore on fire.

Shortrith: ::grinning:: Yeah, I think so too.

Renaie pulled Dom into a hug for a few minutes, before letting go and having some more tea.
