((Secured Reflection Suite and Contemplation Cell, Harmony Shores Collaborative Resort))

Perhaps it was the comfort of the room, maybe the smell of incense which seemed to take some of the edge off, maybe it was just being stuck with De La Croix, but Rox found herself being more honest than she had since she'd talked to Rivka on the Oumuamua.  She also felt herself moved by the story of Thessalonia's bullying sister.  She'd been bullied on more than one occasion, and it was unpleasant. Like some of the children she'd met on the streets of Turkana IV, she felt bad for Thess.

Rox:  ::quietly::  Dr. La Croix ::shaking her head:: Thess I'm so sorry.  You didn't deserve that.

De La Croix: Neither did you...but you reminded me so much of her.

Rox shifted uncomfortably.

De La Croix:  Not in personality thankfully...but in raw ability.  For all the awful things Appolonia is she's also gifted beyond all measure.  No matter how hard I worked at something as young girl, she could always surpass me without the faintest hint of effort.  I saw a great deal of that in you as soon as I met you and apparently...reacted poorly.

Rox sat there for a moment holding the woman's shoulder, thinking about her own childhood.

Rox:  I wasn't rally part of my parents plan.  I was an only child and I spent a lot of time on my own.  That's why I'm so mouthy and wild.  I had to learn to keep people off kilter, and be ready to strike.  ::she sighed::  Turkana IV wasn't a great place to develop relationships.  One days friend could be the next day's enemy.

It was perhaps the first time Rox had considered how her past might be impacting her present.  While Starfleet felt like the family she never had, there was reluctance to get too close.  Rivka, V'Len and Peri were perhaps the people she was closest to, but they were 3 people amongst hundreds she serve with.  Then there was Marty.  She thought the world of him, but there were nights lying in bed when she wondered if she should break it off.  It would be cruel, but she would spare herself his rejection.

De La Croix: Some pair we make...both trained since birth to strike first and hardest if we wanted to survive.  Although I suspect the social calendar of a failed colony world was a bit more...rough and tumble than mine.

Rox put her consideration about Marty aside for the moment.

Rox:  Maybe we need to start a support group for people like us who should stay away from the denizens of Riverside, California.  ::chuckling::

De La Croix: That's much better than my last thought, which was to have his face declared a suspected carrier for a dangerous pathogen which Division 14 would need to study.  I figured I could have technicians pulling that mustache off him whisker by whisker for months.  I would've been doing the Federation another great service.

Rox: Stafleet is the one place I feel like I fit in.  I have a friend who had a transporter accident, a very shy Bardassian, a counselor who's as blunt as a baseball bat.  There's Vomek, the Romulan from Orkney.  Cabrillo who's as big a prankster as I am.  I fit right in here with the freaks.

De La Croix: And I took that from you, didn't I?  Made you feel like you didn't belong?

Rox: ::shaking her head sharply::  No.  No I chose to respond to you poorly and alienated myself.  I need to do better.

Rox knew she had been a better host for alien strangers, she should have done better for their guest.

De La Croix:  I'm sorry.  Truly.  Much as I can blame this on Beckie, I must accept that I treated you quite badly and through no fault of your own.  I...apologize.

Rox: I accept your apology and I hope you'll accept mine as well.

The two embraced for a moment and Rox realized just how long it had been since she had hugged a true friend. She worked to blink away the happy tears that seemed to be forming.

There was a sound that sounded like it belonged in a monastery.

Computer: Congratulations on successfully resolving your emotional turmoil through an honest expression of your feelings.  We hope you are feeling unburdened as our goal at the Harmony Shores Collaborative Resort is to ensure the well being of all of our guests, involuntary confined or otherwise.  Please enjoy a complimentary gift basket of reconciliation scented candles, available in the atrium as you exit where there are currently several parties awaiting you.  Thank you again for choosing Harmony Shores Collaborative Resort for your emotional upheaval.

The gentle gong rang again an a soft light pulsed in the hallway, directing them towards an exit.  Thess looked back to Rox and let out a nearly hysterical fit of laughter and Rox joined her with a raucous cackle.

De La Croix: Did...we just get emotional therapy...from a room?!

Rox: ::pointing::Don't tell Renaie!  I don't want them to know they could be replaced by a room.

Rox walked alcove in the side of the room.  A small door had just opened and she could never say no to a mystery.  Gazing into the chamber a smile stretched across her face.  She reached in to remove the items.

De La Croix:  I didn't particularly like the sound of 'several parties awaiting us.'  What do you suppose that's about?

Rox: Well I don't know about you, but scented candles are not my thing.  ::holding up a bottle of champagne and two flutes::  But I don't think we should share this beyond ourselves.

((A short time later))

Rox was happily downing the last of the congratulatory champagne when the doorway was suddenly filled with three shadows.  Rox's eyes went wide. She turned her head slowly to Thess.

Rox: ::loud whisper::  It's the fuzz!  Don't move they can't see us if we stay still.  ::giggle::

LaCroix: Response

Rox: ::giggling::  Oh this is nothing, wait until they see what I did to the ::cackling::  the bathroom in there.

Kessler: That is an understatement, Doctor.

Jack's attempt at somberness made Rox attempt to hold in her giggles.  She wanted to ask him why he was so serious, but he did not seem to be in the mood for levity.

Beck: Response

Kessler: Do you two realize how this looks on the Ronin? On the Captain?

Rox: About the same as the Chief's of security and Science crushing on the same woman? ::laughing again and looking at Thess::  I'm not even kidding, it's so weird.

Beck/De La Croix: Response

Raga: Hmm? Oh, I was merely pondering whether or not the Captain still has the get along bracelets he received from GottCo last leave. Or if perhaps a shirt that says ‘Our get along shirt’ can be replicated big enough for the two of you to wear side by side. ::he smiled mischievously and waved a hand:: I’m sure the Captain and I can come up with something later. But for the sake of clarity, I am disappointed. Not mad.

Rox once more tried to suppress a giggle.  Raga had helped her get into the academy, so laughing in his face now would probably be bad.

Kessler: If the Captain does not have plans for them Commander, I have a few suggestions.

Rox wobbled onto her feet and slowly stood upright.

Rox: I am soooooo sorry Commander.  It's really all Dr. Beck's fault.

She fell back down to the floor landing squarely on her bottom.

Raga/Beck/De La Croix: Response

Kessler: ::with a firmer tone, eyeing both women:: Respectfully, I do not think the Commander cares who started this. The security logs of the incident captured everything.

Rox:  You should hide those logs.  It would be a ska ::giggle::  sca ::giggle:: scandal for my good friend the duchess.

Raga/Beck/De La Croix: Response

Raga: Response

Kessler: Aye sir. I can do that.

Rox found herself on her feet once more and she looked at Thess who was also looking a bit wobbly, though it could simply have been that she was wobbling.

Rox:  ::whiny::  No, don't beam us back let's have a walk on the beach.

Raga/Beck/De La Croix: Response

Rox: ::looking with alarm at Beck::  No sir, you stay away from her.  We're done with mustaches.

Kessler/Raga/Beck/De La Croix: Response

Rox began to move through the resort until they were once more outside.  Rox could smell the briny air and a cool breeze blew through her hair.  As she ran her fingers through it bits of bean and eggs fell out.

Rox: How'd that get in there?

Kessler/Raga/Beck/De La Croix: Response

Rox began laughing and pointed at Thess with a smile.

Rox:  That's right you did!  Some arm you have.

Kessler/Raga/Beck/De La Croix: Response
