((Lab 2, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

V'Len's experience was heavily slanted toward the life sciences.  There was much about physics, astrophysics, and quantum mechanics that he did not fully understand.   He did however have a strong understanding of the scientific method and had therefore employed the computer to aid in his quest.  Hypotesize, experiment, analyze repeat.  Even the computer had limits and being able to determine the right experiment was challenging if the background unfamiliar.  Thus V'Len had been struggling to understand the mechanism that had powered the sencha reactor on Ross-580.

Behind him he sensed movement and he saw a whisp of blue moving past him further along in the lab.

Kel:  Ensign Zh'taan, do you have a moment?

Zh'taan: ::stands at attention:: Uh… Go-Good afternoon Lieutenant Commander Kel. ::He awkwardly bent down to pick up the PADD.::

V'Len had not gotten a chance to spend time with the newest member of his staff while he'd been acting captain.  With the Ronin now tucked in orbit of Logali V, it seemed like a good time to meet with the young Andorian, and yet, V'len was still reluctant.  His hybrid nature was not the result of parents, but rather an accident and his Andorian brother Kos had not yet accepted who he was.   While Kelor Zh'taan was not Kos, V'Len still worried that Andorian pride might cause Kelor to view him negatively.  He'd reached out now, so he would not have to wonder for long.

Kel:  Good afternoon Ensign. How are you finding the Ronin?

Zh'taan: I... I am finding my bearings. The Ronin has an excellent laboratory, and it is very well equipped. I can properly carry out my research. ::smiles::

Kel:  That's very good to hear.  What are you working on?

Zh'taan: During the last mission, I was several times exposed to Sencha radiation, either indirectly on the ship when I helped Lieutenants Dohna and Morgan escape the black hole, or directly when I went down to the planet. And I find this radiation very… interesting. ::He handed over his PADD:: Here is the data we collected in the system and that I analyzed.

V'Len eagerly took the padd and began to take in the ensign's work.  His head tilted form one side to the other as he tried to take in all of the features the and variables Kelor had noted.

Kel: An impressive start.  I'm undertaking my own attempt to understand how the reactor in the Ross-580 system worked.  It was clearly complicated, but there are a lot of inconsistencies.

Zh'taan: Most of my research has focused on the effects of Sencha radiation on space-time and the disturbances it produces in warp fields.

V'Len nodded.

Kel: That's exactly what I don't understand.  The Sencha radiation impact subspace and yet the reactor was able to draw in power from a parallel Ross-580 star.  Certainly such a process required stable subspace.  So, how did we stabilize the space around us to go to warp?

Zh'taan: When we attempted to stabilize the warp field, we discovered that distortion was impossible because of these disturbances, since Sencha radiation continuously emits chroniton particles. They desynchronize space-time and make it completely unstable. It was therefore impossible for the warp coils to activate properly. On top of that, the radiation produced an aging effect on certain materials. I am currently working on these phenomena in order to find a solution, starting with anti-chroniton particles.

V'Len rubbed his chin and looked back at his model of the Reactor.  He pulled up the schematic he and Esot had managed to get from the habitat command center.  Within the reacotor building was a large pit where the actual reaction was happening and below this a ring shaped particle accelerator of some kind

Kel: ::pointing to the ring::  I saw this on the viewscreen in the control center, it was as clean and new as if it hand only been there a day.  ::pointing to the other systems::  These systems were in disrepair, but they were not aged like our probes.  How do you suppose they protected the reactor components from the chronitons?

Zh'taan: Response

V'Len shook his head and made some notes in the model program.

Kel:  That makes the most sense, but I've never heard of anything approaching that kind of technology.

Zh'taan: Response

Kel: Could the Tholian web technology come into play here?

Zh'taan: Response

Kel: I'm more of a life sciences guy myself, but we may have another resources.  ::smiling at Kelor::  Sencha radiation gets its name from being who discovered it ::dramatic pause::  Sencha Niac.

Zh'taan: Response

Kel:  That's right.  We may need to recruit the Captain to assist us.
