((Shuttlecraft Olmec, approaching Slalom course))

The journey had taken only 2 hours and most of the trip was spent in silence or small talk.  Vomek had studied the track of the course.  It was a three dimensional maze through the planetary rings and lunar valleys of a gas giant and it's moons.  There was nothing overly extreme, except that the movement of the matter that made up the rings was not 100% predictable.

Vomek:  Ok.  So explain this to me one more time: how does all this work together to ensure you don't end up pasted to the side of a rock?

Poagie: Gooba Jean has a blast and skis with reckless abandon. I monitor things like forefield strength, tow rope integrity, vital signs, radiation concentrations, etc.  and worry my grub nuts off. You just fly and don’t hit  or swing her into anything.

Gooba Jean: Yeah, sugar. That about sums it up.

Vomek rubbed his chin and glanced at Poagie.

Vomek:  The shuttle has short range transporters.  We'll want to keep a lock on her.  We should also make sure nothing in the debris field or on those moons will interfere with the transporters.

Poagie: It is an established course so there should be no interference, but yeah, I maintain a lock on her at all times as well.

Gooba Jean: You worry more than a momma Dung-Florka, Po-Po. Simon here won’t let anything happen to me.

Vomek:  We'll do 2 runs through the course first.  ::looking at Gooba Jean::  Then you can go.

She looked initially disappointed then quickly relented.

Gooba Jean: Ya do whatever ya think ya need to do to get yerself all warmed up. I will too :: She lifted her leg high and braced it against the wall plate at full stretch :: Gotta limber up.

Vomek:  For safety reasons I want to make sure I'm able to handle the situation before I drag someone through it.

Poagie: Right, maybe 9 or 10 might be better?

Gooba Jean: ::ignoring Poagie:: Fine, but I hope you’re spontaneous in other ways. It’s customary for the skier to buy the pilot a few drinks after a few successful runs.

Pogaie rolls his eyes.

Poagie: Yeah, to celebrate not dying and all.

Vomek: Response

After a few practice runs with just the shuttle. They pulled into the start waiting area. There had been a few other skiers that they’d been able to watch a bit on closed circuit steam feeds in the localized area. When they received the “three away in the que” notification, Gooba Jean removed the robe she was wearing over the two-piece bikini and began to strap on her skis.

Vomek: Response

Poagie beamed out an exo-comp to attach the tow-rope and handed Gooba Jean a small but very stylized helmet.

Gooba Jean: Oh, It’s only ‘cause my brother’s here usually I ski naked.

She winked just before donning the helmet and Poagie sighed.

Vomek: Response

Poagie turned to the control panel making sure the feed between her heads-up display and the shuttle was fully active. Satisfied, he reluctantly nodded his head.

Gooba Jean: All right then, beam me out.

He slid the transported controls beaming her out and the exo-comp back aboard.

Poagie: =/\= Comm check. Gooba Jean are you ready to go? =/\=

Gooba Jean: =/\= As ready as a Vulcan during pon…=/\=

Poagie: =/\=Okay, got it. Stand by.=/\=

Vomek: Response

Poagie: The things you do for family.

The course control technician signaled that they were cleared to go.

Vomek: Response
