((Stellar Cartography, Science Lab Complex, Decks 10-11, USS Ronin, Outside the J-0922A System))
Lorana: This whole time we've done exactly what they expect, Commander! And I know that you agree with me … somewhere.
Alieth narrowed her eyes, the frown she wore impossible to deepen much more than it had so far.
Lorana: We can stay behind. I'll stay behind myself if that's what it takes!
Despite the tension and the sternness of the expression carved into his Vulcan features, Alieth could have barked out a laugh at that moment. A humourless, bitter laugh, had she been a person who indulged in such banalities.
Alieth: Lieutenant Lorana, it has been long enough since Olindra to have learned from the experience. You'll need a more elaborate plan if you want me to entertain such an option…
There was still a sharp edge in her voice. One that she had no way of disguising, stemming from her adherence to duty and rule, and the annoyance at the public lack of decorum, almost insubordinate, that Luxa was displaying at the moment. Yet another part of her wanted to be convinced. This was, indeed, a unique circumstance, one they had not previously had since Olindra, but with the understanding they had gained there. One that might mend the wrongs they all had committed.
Raedai: Responses
As the science team's discussion built momentum, the blonde Trill seemed to shrink into herself while she approached the Caitian, tail wagging high behind her, telegraphing her emotions.
Syrex: Apologies, Lieutenant. But it is your turn now, may I?
Luxa appeared as if to say "go ahead," and the young doctor, taking it as permission, pressed the hypo spray against Lt. Lorana’s neck, dispensing the inoculation.
Lorana: :: more focused :: I suggest we take the Rhine, and investigate that platform, we can use the subspace eddies created by the S-Wave radiation to mask our presence.
Alieth: Even so, we will be isolated. We would not be able to contact the Ronin or any other vessel without disclosing our position, and as much as the Rhine is able to withstand significant damage, she would not survive an encounter with one of these frigates, even less one of the stations. We might be able to get vital intel to save Deep Space Thirty-three, but we would not be in a position to deliver it.
Raedai: Responses
The Romulan's technical knowledge once again proved sound and, once again, Alieth loathed him for it. But she had to concede that he was useful, at the very least, and contributed positively to Lorana's harebrained plan.
Before any of the science team could say more, the young Ensign climbed back up the ladder to the walkway that Alieth occupied, and squared her shoulders in that firm, academy-ingrained posture that, over time, loosened on the more senior officers.
Syrex: I’m done, if any of you begin to feel ill or strange in any way, please contact sickbay ::Looks towards Alieth:: Especially you Lt Commander.
There was a softness in the young doctor's words that spoke of someone truly passionate about her work, caring about her patients and trying to do the best she could. Something the petite Vulcan could empathize with. A small part of Alieth hinted that maybe she hadn't been as welcoming as she should have been to a newcomer, and chastised her for it.
Yet the rest was focused on the data of the mad mission that was beginning to take shape in his mind. Nevertheless, she indulged in a slight tightening of her lips, not a smile, but a relaxation of her usually stern expression.
Alieth: ::with a playful expression glinting in her eyes :: At your command, Ensign.
Raedai/Lorana: Responses
The young trill began to walk towards the door, but before she fully crossed the lintel, she paused, turning on her heels to look around at Luxa.
Syrex: Lieutenant, if you’re thinking of going over to that platform, I would recommend taking a medic, in case anything should happen.
Luxa: Response
With that sentence, the young Trill left Stellar Cartography, and Alieth seized the moment to head downstairs and join the other two officers on the lower deck of the lab.
Alieth: ::rubbing her chin:: With the shields set up as we did in Olindra and taking advantage of the Sencha Eddies we could hide from the stations' broad scanning surveys but... for how long? Could we disguise our signature so they could identify us with an LA transport or a natural element?
Raedai/Lorana: Responses
The petite Vulcan continued pacing around the lab, listening to the contributions of the others as she tried to piece it all together in her mind.
Alieth: This
will be an infiltration mission. If we get caught, not only will we
not be able to transmit the information to the Ronin, but most likely
we can consider ourselves effectively dead. That or suffer the fate
that Petty Officer First Class Gra'vel escaped from when she was
taken prisoner on Grus Beta Three. :: She glanced earnestly at the
two officers present:: Are you willing to face that prospect? If not,
you can remain on the Ronin and I will seek other volunteers.
As
she said this last, she paused, her gaze falling on Raedai. She held
no fondness for the man, but he had proved useful, and they would
need someone with his technical expertise on the mission. However,
she was unwilling to dragoon him into an extremely perilous
assignment just because she considered him useful. Lorana on the
other hand, not this option, since it had been her suggestion and it
seemed that the possibility of dying or being disintegrated at the
atomic level was one of the few things that managed to get her out of
bed in the mornings.
Raedai/Lorana: Responses
Alieth: It is ready then.
Raedai/Lorana: Responses
She nodded, expecting both answers as they came, in a way. Only then, she walked to the back of the lab, gaining the privacy that distance afforded her to squeeze the combadge pinned to the front of her uniform.
Alieth: =/\= Alieth to Captain Niac. I have a proposition to make before the Ronin leave the system. =/\=
The petite Vulcan took a deep breath, intuitively knowing that what she was about to say would not sit well on the bulky Trill.
Niac: =/\= Response =/\=
Alieth: =/\= Leave me and my team behind, with a small runabout. The Rhine for example can fly undetected for longer than any larger vessel and will allow us to gather enough intel to learn more about Alliance technology, the science behind their weapons and how to combat them. The rest of our department can collaborate with the Khitomer science team to design a diffuser for Sencha weapons with what we have already shared with them, so our presence will only be of advantage to this mission. =/\=
The petite Vulcan spoke fast and factually, with that confident logic that characterized her kind.
Niac: =/\= Response =/\=
Alieth: =/\= Ensign Syrex, in fact, volunteered herself. That will cover any problems that might arise. =/\= :: Without letting the captain retort:: =/\= We will be able to relay the information to the Ronin before you reach Deep Space Thirty-Three and then hide until it becomes safe to return. =/\=
Niac: =/\= Response =/\=
