T'Alia's muscles tensed as deflector power crept up the final 5% needed.  Once it hit 100% she activated the sequence to flood the space with anti-chronitons.  There were no obvious changed to the room, which was a promising sign.

Dohna: Emitting particles now.

Zh'taan: I’m initiating a scan of the deflectors. ::Manipulates the LCARS::

Morgan: :: keying the LCARS again:: Something’s happening, and I can’t tell if it has to do with the deflector or the power we’ve been providing the surface with the power transfer, there’s some feedback building up, it’s not at a dangerous indicator, yet. oO “yet” pulling all the weight in that sentence Oo

Something was wrong. There had been only minimal dispersion of the chronitons around the Ronin.  She ran a diagnostic of the emitter.

Dohna:  The emitter is working, but all the anti-chronitons are going straight ahead of the  ship. ::beat::  Into the black hole.

Zh'taan: It appears the black hole has moved closer faster than expected. ::He taps commands on the LCARS:: It’s less than 30,000 kilometers away now.

Dohna:  Maybe we could rotate the ship?

Morgan: ::turning to Dohna:: I don’t think that’s going to help at all…

Zh'taan: No! ::He fell silent for several seconds, embarrassed…::

The Andorian’s voice made her head snap around, and then there was a silence. Rachel shrugged and went back to working on their feedback problem; it was getting worse. She was doing some creative rerouting but she was starting to run out of options..

Morgan: Not to alarm anyone, but I’ve got major feedback coming from the surface of that moon, which I think is also starting to muck with other systems. I’m going to have to shut things down and hunt down these issues or we could have a major problem on our hands.

oO Jia'kaja, tre'nu'tol'a rem... La'por i'lanu kos... I'nar tan'a'tali nor… Oo

Dohna:  ::sighing::  We may be well past that point Lt. Morgan.

Zh'taan: Sorry… ::He steadies himself:: I’ve analyzed the scans directed at the black hole. It’s approaching faster and faster. But it’s our only way out if we manage to stabilize the warp toward the black hole.

T'Alia glanced at Zh'tann, who seemed very unsteady on his feet.  It was hardly surprising a new Ensign stuck into a crisis.  For a moment T'Alia's focus drifted as her mind grappled with the thought of the many ensigns who had perished on the Compass Rose.  She took a deep breath a her counselor suggested. She was here now, she was safe.  There was no need for alarm.  She took a deep breath to bring herself back to the room as Rachel's hands danced across the nearby LCARs display.

Morgan: ::looking at Zh’taan:: I get that, but at the moment I’m also wrangling with the power transfer to the surface, we just can’t bolt out and sever the link like that. It’s already developing a feedback loop that, if I don’t get a handle on it, we’re in a world of hurt.

T'Alia sprang into action.

Dohna: I'll help you wind it down Lt. Morgan.  Won't that impact containment on the surface?

It hardly mattered, the Ronin could not do it all and the Captain had stated warp power was a priority.

Zh'taan: And we must continue emitting anti-chronitons, at least until warp engages. They’ll be drawn in, but the chronitons will be as well. Warp will have to activate at the exact moment the anyons clear the chronitons around the black hole. At that point, we’ll have a window to leave the system. To do that, we must synchronize warp with the black hole at the moment it draws in the chronitons and the anyons.

T'Alia gave the Andorian an uncertain smile.

Dohna: No pressure then eh?

Zh'taan: ::He pauses for a few seconds:: Yes, it’s risky, but we’re caught between Sencha radiation and the black hole. That window is our only solution to leave the system.

Morgan: The problem is, we can’t just leave the system; we still have three away teams on the surface, and we’re missing spacecraft, like half the Valkyries.

Zh'taan: ::Closes his eyes to push back his anger at himself:: Sorry, Lieutenant. I’d forgotten about that…

Dohna:  So do we shut the system down for now and bring it back online when we're ready to leave?

Rachel all but slapped her commbadge through her chest.

Morgan: Morgan to Kel, we’ve encountered more than one problem. I’m shutting down the power transfer now; otherwise, the feedback will overload several Ronin systems.

Kel: =/\= Lieutenant, that could cause us to lose containment down here.  =/\=

Rachel hung her head for a second and shook it.  T'Alia too was uncomfortable with the Captain's displeasure, but there was only so much they could do.  She thought about mentioning that she could pray, but it was illogical to think the Captain would find that useful at the moment

Zh'taan: The transfer shutdown is going to be violent for the ship—brace yourselves! ::Continues running scans::

Morgan: I know, sir. I don’t have any other choice. If I had other options, I would have brought those up first.

Kel: =/\= Do what you have to do to keep the ship intact.  We'll see what we can do down here. =/\=

Morgan: Aye, sir. Shutting it down.

While Rachel reached over and started the shutdown process, T'Alia moved to monitor the deflector and the other of the ships power systems.  She did not like what the display was telling her.

Dohna:  I think we're going to have a problem.

Morgan: Hang on to something!!

T'Alia lost count of the exact number of explosions, but the whole area seemed briefly enveloped in light and smoke. When it all cleared she was pleased to see that the room was still there along with the rest of the ship.

Zh'taan: I’m notifying Sickbay about the injured. ::He taps his commbadge:: =/= Ensign Zh’taan to Dr. De la Croix. Are you all right on your end? We have three injured on Deck 14, Main Engineering. Over. =/=

De la Croix: =/\= Response =/\=

As she began to check the status of the ship she noted a small alarm light.  It was not a system within the Ronin, but rather an urgent signal from one of the probes that had been dispersed throughout the system.

Kel: ::worried::  =/\= Lt. Morgan?  Report. =/\=

Morgan: I didn’t get it shut down in time. We didn’t take the full brunt of that, but we still got knocked around a bit. I’ll have to get back to you, Skipper. Several systems are cooked; I’ll know more in a few minutes. Morgan out…

Kel: ::relieved:: =/= Keep me apprised.  =/=

Dohna: =/\= Captain, there's another problem.  One of our probes is detecting an object entering the system.  =/\=

She was not sure if the message had gotten through or not, but she did not have time to follow up.  The bridge would likely see the alarm as well.  She focused on checking over the damaged systems.  She threw a glance at Ensign Zh'taan wondering how the young man was holding out.

Zh'taan: I’m running diagnostics.

Dohna:  Good work Ensign.  ::pausing::  We'll need to reroute power to the catamaran.  Some of the relays have been fused.

Morgan: Response

Zh'taan: The hull doesn’t appear to be damaged, but the shock pushed the ship a few kilometers closer to the black hole.

T'Alia glanced at the monitor.  The strange black hole was now only 30,000 km away.  Closer than she would have preferred.

Dohna:  Do we have impulse power?  We need to move.

Morgan: Response

Zh'taan: With the power transfer offline, the ship should have more available power, right? We might be able to buy some time by trying to move away from the black hole using reverse engine thrust. Instead of turning around, what if we try backing away?

Dohna:  Good thinking Ensign.   We can move off faster once impulse power is back online.

Morgan: Response

For the moment the RCS thrusters were the only option for moving the Ronin.

Dohna:  is the deflector still operational?

Zh'taan/Morgan: Response

That at least was good news.  They still had a chance to get away.

Dohna:  So our escape plan is intact, how long before that window closes for good.

Zh'taan/Morgan: Response

Dohna:  ::sighing::  That's not much time.  Any way we can extend our window?

Zh'taan/Morgan: Response
