Lt JG Tess Evinrude - The Waiting is the Hardest Part

PADDwork, done. Stores, stowed. Diagnostics, ran. Maintenance, upkept. Tess and the other mid-level ops officers had been dutifully working behind the scenes to make sure the Ronin was ready for anything, but there was only so much ready-ing to be done. No one from engineering had even dropped by to steal away the shared conference room, which was unusual, so Tess had just kept working here following the impromptu awards ceremony. It had a full-featured terminal for engineering and operations work, after all.

His first duty shift after the announcement that the Admiralty had cut short shoreleave was almost over and, though it had been productive, Tess was wondering when the real work would arrive. He'd sent his ops team out to finish an inventory of Cargo Bay 4. Despite Morrow's distilling operation, there were still supplies being kept there - if anything, he thought that keeping the place tidy would ensure the JAG officer's hobby could continue uninterrupted. An organized storage bay plus distillery is a functional storage bay plus distillery.

Anyway, Cousteau and Thakuri didn't seem to mind the busy work. Perhaps it was because of the presence of the distilling operation.

Here, in the ops wing, it was time to determine if he had a "need to know." He was able to suss out that the rendezvous with the Goodall had been a success, but he still didn't have access to any mission details.

Evinrude: We blast away from Lolagi IV like it's a race, and so far Operations is still in the dark. ::He smiled and rolled his eyes as he stood from the console and stretched.:: At least no one was permanently atomized during the high-warp transport.

Tess pushed aside the empty tray from the Brew Continuum, leaded back against the conference table, and tapped his combadge.

Kel:  =/\= Response =/\=

Evinrude: =/\=Thank you, sir. I am aware that we made good speed to the rendezvous with the USS Goodall. Operations work team reports are coming in, and we're looking ship-shape and ready.

Kel:  =/\= Response =/\=

Evinrude: =/\= Well, that's my question. Where are we needed for the, ah, mission at hand? If, that is, I'm authorized to know. ::He added genuinely, aware of the air of secrecy.::
