Wren: Try reaching in there, but be careful. ::To shortrith:: When exactly did you lose your notes, and did you do a pen and paper backup?

The ops officer nodded, donning his own protective gear and moving in beside Delphina.

Shortrith: At approximately 1330 hours, after my session with one of the Tactical ensigns. I do have a dot point summary of each session on paper, but not in the detail that I put in my session notes. Fortunately enough, I have previous days backed up on a hard drive that's not currently connected to the computer, so I haven't lost all my notes.

Evinrude: That's good at least. ::He carefully moved in to observe a conduit junction, his sentence coming out disjointed as he jockeyed for a better position.:: That...your only...problem, Counselor?

Shortrith: Pretty much, yeah. I don't know what could have caused it, but at least there's the dot point notes that don't get lost. Unless it's some form of glitch in a system or something?

Evinrude: I'm starting to build a theory here. ::His arm emerged again, clutching a section of gel-pack link conduit. The connectors from the conduit to the packs themselves looked...off.

Wren: Oh? ::back to Shortrith:: Usually when the computer experiences a sort of failure resulting in the loss of data, it tries to alert you that something’s gone wrong. But it just shut down on you?

Shortrith: In a way, yes. There was no mention of corrupted files or anything… It just deleted.

Wren: That almost sounds like an old-fashioned power surge…

Evinrude: ::Eyes narrowing.:: It's been carrying too much current...check this out, Wren.

Delphina hurried over to look at the conduit, taking it delicately in her hands as though it were a wounded bird. The edges looked almost scorched, but the marks weren’t black, they were a deep, midnight blue. Almost as though the liquid of the gel packs had dyed it as it burned. She gently rubbed her gloved thumb against it, taking some of the color off with it as she tried to figure out if any part of it could be salvaged.

Shortrith: Would it be worth trying the good old turning the terminal off then back on again?

Evinrude: ::With a grin, he turned to Shortrith to reply.:: Often, yes. Believe it or not. But in this case, we have a small ripple-effect going on, physical damage caused by certain groups of gel packs taking on too much. Wren, do you think those are salvageable?

Wren: If you feel up for peeling off the outer casing and replacing all the wiring inside, as well as sticking on a new connector cap, he might be alright, but that’s a lot of work. I think we’d be better using these as scrap, and replicating some replacements… oO Although…. It might be fun to Ship of Theseus a gel pack conduit sometime…. I should add that to the Engineering Team Building event list. Oo. The gel packs themselves should be alright with a little TLC, but the conduits should probably be sent to a farm upstate.

Shortrith: Response

Evinrude: My best guess? The damage over in stellar cartography caused power to re-route automatically. Normally that would be harmless, but when that issue combined with the unexpected gaggle of little saboteurs ripping and hot-swapping isolinear chips like it was a drunken game of kadis-kot...

Wren: We get a power surge…. Which, if there’s still some energy discharge, that does explain why I was electrocuted just a minute ago

Shortrith: Response

Evinrude: Exactly. The fix should be easy enough - and hopefully we can refurbish these! ::He gestured at the gel packs.::

Wren: I think it might be a good idea to do what Shortrith suggested, ‘turn it off and on again’ in a specific area. Maybe we can create a localized shutdown in the affected areas, and re-route the extra energy to our reserve banks? That would give us a chance to fix the horrors wrought by little hands.

Evinrude/Shortrith: Response

Wren: I can’t guarantee a total recollection of your notes, unfortunately. I’m sorry, counselor. But, if you would like I can modify your comm badge to function as a short-term storage recording device so you don’t experience this again? You can clear it after every session, and have extra access to your notes? And I can make it so only you have access.

Evinrude/Shortrith: Response

Wren: Absolutely!.... ::To Evinrude:: Hey, if you’re not going to use that conduit, can I actually have it?

She took the offered conduit, slipping it into one of her many hidden pockets, before walking over to the nearest console, initiating the shutdown. Within a few moments, the lights flickered and dimmed slightly, and she glanced over to Shortrith.

Wren: I’ve powered down in this section, so you should be able to start the repairs now.

Evinrude/Shortrith: Response
