(( Sickbay, Deck 10, USS Ronin ))

The Commander's tour of the ship had started in The 47 Lounge and led to Engineering and was now making its way into Sickbay. Jack was taking this opportunity to learn as much about Oswald as he could, especially his character. Who was this officer and how was he going to fit in with Captain Niac's crews. The Ronin certainly was nothing like the Butler, the ship Jack had come from and there had been a bit of adjustment to the command style and flow of the ship. That was true for any assignment change and Jack thought he had handled his well. He was eager to see how this new officer would handle being moved from a duty post he spent so many years on.

Oswald: Nice place you got here.

Wren: ::To Cerisor:: Hello!

Kessler: ::gentle nod:: Ensign

Cerisor: Thank you, Commander. We've been quite busy with the supply inventory, but we've been keeping things running smoothly. I'm Doctor Cerisor. Are you feeling-

Oswald: Thank you, but that won't be necessary, I'm an android.

Cerisor: I-I see. Well. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, or if you'd like me to fetch Doctor de la Croix, I'm sure she is around somewhere.

Wren: ::perking up:: Oh, that would b-

Kessler: ::remaining quite:: oO Yes fetch de la Croix. Oo

Oswald: Actually I do have a question. Mr. Kessler expressed some distaste earlier when I mentioned that I could take in organic food and then regurgitate it later. I thought maybe he and others would be more comfortable if I could take in such substances and then excrete it from a more traditionally humanoid location. Would you be able to update my system in that way?

Jack's head nearly spun right off his shoulders as glanced over to Oswald and then back to the Doctor and then back to Oswald. Jack wanted to defend his comment from earlier but how do you defend a comment that leads to someone walking into sickbay and asking for an upgrade to their body so they can...well, go poo? Jack was at a total loss of words and by the expression on several other faces, they were right there in the same confounded thought process he was in.

O’Connor: Did I come at a bad time?

Cerisor: ::looking blankly at Oswald:: Huh?

Nakada: He – oh.

Wren: ::covering her mouth::........... Mr. Oswald, I…. think that’s a…::completely at a loss for words:: hm

Nakada: Commander Oswald wants to –

Nakada glanced at Jack in desperation and Jack glanced over his shoulder to find no one standing there to pass the unspoken comment off to. He looked back to Nakada and then to O'Connor.

Kessler: ::tactifully:: The Commander, I believe, is asking for a waste removal system to be installed in his body?

oO Yeah, that sounded professional. Gross but professional. Oo

Oswald: Response

O’Connor: I don’t know. However there are probably better alternatives to fitting in than physically installing a waste removal tract.

Cerisor: I-I mean, we certainly could, er, try. I just... why? If you don't need to do it, I mean.

Oswald: Response

Wren: ::quickly:: Mr. Oswald, I don’t know if that’s necessary-

Kessler: ::hold hands up as if to surrender:: I never meant to suggest you needed a.......::looking around for an escape::

Nakada: :: words forming finally :: Commander, any distaste on the crew’s part was surprise, please feel no obligation to change your own, for lack of a better term, biology.

Jack pointed to Nakada and nodded a few times. oO Yes, what he said. Just what he said. Oo

Cerisor: Well, Commander. I'm more of a organic Doctor, and that sounds more like a job for a roboticst. However, there's no harm in taking a look, right? It seems that you have some engineers with you.

Oswald: Response

Wren: You don’t need to change your internal systems, Mr. Oswald. Unless you want to, but you shouldn’t feel as though you have to.

O’Connor: I’m not sure exactly what I walked in on Commander, but I wholeheartedly agree with Ensign Wren here. Make choices that are best for you not to conform to what others think. This is a pretty accepting and IDIC thinking crew. Either way is okay, sir.

Kessler: ::looking to Oswald:: If you have worked with and functioned around humans for as long as you have, you'd know somethings surprise us in an awkward way and somethings don't. You just caught me off guard but there is no reason to change your physical structure because you surprised us.

Oswald: Response

The doctor led them over to a biobed, where they proceeded to scan the commander. Jack stayed more towards the rear of the group. He honestly started to expect Oswald to spring up off the biobed and yell, 'Gotcha' in some joking way. Or maybe he really was hoping this was the androids sense of humor and he was leading anyone who would take the bait on a waste disposal system goose chase.

oO Please be a joke. Oo

Cerisor: As I suspected, your internals are entirely mechanical. However... it does appear to be attempting to mimic a human body system. Your circuits seem to be following the same basic path as a nervous system. You're obviously missing lungs and similar organs... but, there's actually quite a bit of room in there.

Oswald: Response

Cerisor: Supposing the Commander would like to... proceed. How feasible would this be, from a robotics perspective?

Wren: I mean, um…. ::increasingly uncomfortable:: We- I mean, I could add one technically? oO just think of it like connecting internal tubing…… why doesn’t that help?? Oo ::Looking at Nakada for help:: I’ve never worked on an android before, though.

Kessler: ::holding up both hands and shaking his head in a negative motion:: oO Don't ask me, please don't ask me. Oo

Cerisor/Oswald/Any: Response

Wren: Not that I’m not being supportive of course! I just….. Nakada, what do you think?

He threw Wren a sour look as he joined the melee. He scrolled through the scans on the screen as he talked.

Nakada: :: gathering his thoughts :: Well, commander, like the others mentioned, this should be possible. You already have a regurgitation system, we can reroute the output to :: drawing an uneven line on the screen to the commander’s rear :: here. Of course if you want a change in consistency similar to biological output :: thinking :: maybe some clumping agents?

Nakada: :: clears  throat :: If you were to move forward, the bigger question is who has the experience to perform such a modification.

He turned and stared right at Wren. Jack thought it would have taken Solana and both her legendary blades to cut through the air that was forming in the room.

Kessler: ::folding his arms across his chest:: I'm not it. I just police the ship and blow up bad guys.

oO Thankfully. Oo Jack glanced around sickbay. He noted that there was no one standing between him and the exit. oO I wonder how long it would take them to notice if I slipped out? Oo

Cerisor/Oswald/Any: Response

Wren: I mean, yes, I do know a lot about robotics, I just… I don’t know anything about android anatomy, and I don’t want to cause any damage due to my lack of experience.

Kessler: Yeah, that was not really my thing at the Academy. Kind of glad too...::beat:: I mean this should be a fun medical cybernetics journal entry for someone right? Wren, Nakada you two could publish together on this collaboration.

His statement was not met with the enthusiasm or humor in which it was meant. Oh well, building the Commander a new waste dump was not in the Security/Tactical list of things to do and it certainly was not on his Bingo Card. If it was, he might be skipping it.

Cerisor/Oswald/Any: Response

O’Connor: Commander, If you decide you are gonna go through with this, please accept this gift in the spirit it is intended, which is a whole hearted welcome to the club of those who defecate.

Nakada: Might need to update that then …

Kessler: ::chuckling:: Ok Ian, that's funny. Extra points for origination there.

Cerisor/Oswald/Wren/Any: Response

Nakada: I’m curious – Mr. Oswald, do you have any experience doing modifications yourself?

He was an android and Keneth suspected he may have some experience doing self-maintenance. Perhaps he could work with the doctor and Wren?

Kessler: Perhaps this needs more detail and prolonged study?

oO Maybe that will buy us time to get out of this conversation. Oo

Oswald/Cerisor/O’Connor/Wren/Any: Response

Nakada: Well, regardless of the current discussion, it seems we need some protocol to manage your care while aboard the Ronin.

Kessler: Excellent point Mister Nakada.

Oswald/Cerisor/O’Connor/Wren/Any: Response

Nakada: And what was the protocol aboard your previous posting? Perhaps yourself, and us in engineering and medical should work something out.

Kessler: And maybe this is something of a discussion best saved for a later time, after your tour is finished and you can speak with your Doctor's in a more private setting?

Oswald/Cerisor/O’Connor/Wren/NakadaAny: Response

Jack looked to Oswald, of course he did not care who was there.

Kessler: Come on Commander, you have to have some sense of modesty programmed in right? ::lowering his voice:: I mean you really don't want the whole ship knowing you want a new waste dump system right?

Oswald/Cerisor/O’Connor/Wren/NakadaAny: Response

Jack glanced around the group. His uncomfortability with the conversation was obviously awkwardly showing.

Kessler: I guess we are all just wanting to make sure that your privacy is respected and that you think this through before making any significant alterations that from my perspective have not been needed since you joined Starfleet.
