Wren: ::very worried and trying to hide it:: Better safe than sorry, right?
Shortrith: Yeah… I suppose.
Delphina could hear the tension in their voice, and reflexively reached for her phaser. As her fingers closed around it, hesitation crept in. She’d fired a phaser before of course, everyone at the academy had, but there was a clear difference between shooting a holographic target, and an actual living, breathing thing.
Wren: It genuinely could just be the others oO But if that were the case, why hadn’t they said anything yet? Oo But it doesn’t sound right…
The steps sounded again, and Delphina flicked her phaser on, setting it decidedly to stun. The babies had all fallen silent, as though they could also sense Delphina’s unease, and she carefully moved away from Shortrith, standing in front of the forcefield they’d made.
Shortrith: It's a Tholian. It's the only one that it sounds like, it's not bipedal like us.
Dread pooled in Delphina’s stomach as she tried to remember everything she’d heard about Tholians in the past. She knew they were aggressive, she knew they’d done serious damage to a starbase recently, but what were they doing here?
Shortrith: It's near T'Fearne and O'Connor. Let's strengthen the forcefield around the young ones. We need to help them.
Wren: Of course ::kneeling in front of the forcefield, tapping at her PADD:: oO What is it they say, we need to have our phasers at least at level six? I don’t know what level of force-field would repel their weaponry…. Oo ::looking at Shortrith:: Have you met Tholians before?
Shortrith: Response
Delphina glanced up as T’Fearne and O’Connor entered the room, straightening up so quickly she felt her ankles crack a little. For a moment, she was sure she’d made some kind of mistake, but no… they were teenagers. oO Did they not….use my tricorder?? No, okay, don’t blame them. It probably just surprised them, but still. Oo
Shortrith: I heard non-human footsteps… What happened?
Wren:........ oO Okay you have to say something, you’re acting incredibly unprofessional right now. This is a set-back, just….be casual about this Oo……. ::as non-casually as possible:: Did you guys find anything interesting?
T'Fearne/O'Connor/: Response
Delphina’s eyes flicked down to O’Connor’s hand, straightening up in surprise as she saw they were holding a baby Tholian. oO Oh… adorable. But also, that is not what we heard, which means… Oo Beside her, Shortrith said something in Klingon, which was immediately redacted by the universal translator.
Wren: Oh, I’m sorry, I uh, the computer is set for the babies, I don’t know if we can curse. ::to T’Fearne and O’Connor, but not able to look directly at them:: Where’d you find that little Shrimp?

Wren: ::nodding:: I think it might be a good idea to update the commander about this. If there are Tholians here, they might be elsewhere too ::tapping comm badge::...... ::taps it again, as it didn’t work the first time::..... Are any of you getting a signal?

Well. That was less than ideal. Delphina let out a breath, anxiously drumming her fingers against the top of her PADD.
Wren: We heard footsteps a second ago, too large to just be the baby. I think it might be a good idea to shut down this room, I can use the available power to seal the door with a forcefield, that seems to be the only entrance. I don’t know if I can cover the ventilation system, though, and I don’t know how long I can keep it going ::going back to the computer system:: This thing still doesn’t want to cooperate with me.

Before she could continue, she was interrupted by a loud bang from the hallway they’d come from. She paused, exchanging a glance with the others, before plugging her PADD back into the computer.
Wren: I’m gonna go ahead and seal the door now.
