Marty had been at his desk for the last three hours and he’d only gotten up once from his chair. While shore leave was indeed moving right along, there was still work to be done. And it they had crews crawling all round the Ronin, inside and out.
Eryxus, G: =/\= Gaia Eryxus to Commander Tucker. =/\=
Speaking of outside, Marty tapped his combadge.
Tucker: Go for Tucker.
Eryxus, G: =/\= I’ve completed the installation of the last interior hull breach in the catamaran….Stop sticking your nose in that already. My work is fine! =/\=
Tucker: What did you just say Petty Officer? I’m not sure if we’ve got a strong comsignal?
He was pretty sure she was talking to someone else, and he just wanted a little panic out of the Petty Officer. He's done it before, but it’s always in good faith and not derogatory at all.
Eryxus, G: =/\= Oh, no Commander. I was talking to Amandus, one of the cosmozoans that seem to be assisting with repairs. He’s been following me around since we started the external patches. I’m ready to remove the damaged hull piece so we can replace it. I can do that now if you want sir? =/\=
Marty raised an unseen eyebrow, it wasn’t the first time he heard about Cosmozoan’s tailing the crew while they made repairs, they were very curious creatures and had helped when it was needed.
Tucker: You sound exhausted, why don’t you call it a shift and get some rest. We can get back to it tomorrow. We’ve got a big project for tomorrow and I need you on your A game.
Eryxus, G: =/\= Really, sir. I’m fine. I’ve only been out here for five hours. And we still have a lot of work to do left. Has the damage control team completed the repair to the interior bulkhead from the inside? =/\= I suppose we've earned a slight break, haven't we, Amandus?
Marty tried to keep his people as fresh as possible, if you work a double, you get a shorter shift after and other things that have been instituted since the former Chief made a hasty exit. Dude was crazier than three Targ’s in a satchel.
Tucker: The project tomorrow will be replacing parts of the ventral phaser array. Some of it was due to be replaced, the others were sustained battle before we popped in here.
Eryxus, G: Response
He fiddled with some padds as the Petty Officer talked. There were so many moving parts with the repair efforts that it was hard to keep track of it all. With all their workerbees air traffic around the flight deck was heavy, and he had to coordinate with Flight Ops about where the Bee’s were at any minute while they were in operation.
Tucker: Make sure you enter your work log, and give it to Ensign Miller. He’s turned into my point man when it comes to keeping track of repairs. The guy is actually a wiz at this kind of stuff.
While Ensign Miller wasn’t the greatest engineer in the fleet, but he was an ace at managing numbers and such, as long as you kept him on task, he’s a bit of a talker if you asked Marty. Chip is a good egg, and Marty’s always tried to make him feel as part of the team, even if he exhibited loner traits.
Eryxus, G: Response
Tucker: Seriously, Petty Officer, take some darn time off, will ya? I don’t want to be known as some crazy ass, hard ass and working ya’ll to the bone. Tired workers make mistakes; I shouldn’t have to remind you of that little fact.
Marty was pretty sure he came off sterner than he’d wanted to, but he wanted to impress the fact that tired engineers make mistakes and that just can’t happen on a starship. They all had to be battle-ready at the drop of a hat, and a crewman or officer not on top of their game only gets in the way. While Marty ran a tight department, there was always a little wiggle room.
