((Outside the conference Room, Deck 3, USS Ronin))

The briefing had lasted only around 30 minutes, perhaps less, but V'Len felt decidedly annoyed, mostly by their guest intelligence officer's suggestion that they might need to destroy whatever cosmozoan life form they were making a bee line toward.  In the back of his mind V'Len knew the woman was right, frustrating as it was.  He tried to push the possibility out of his mind.  For the moment his goal was to determine what this creature was and if there was any way they might be able to communicate with it.  He turned to the guest scientist and fellow Trill walking next to him.

Kel:  Lieutenant.  I hope you'll forgive my outburst.  I'm a medical doctor by training and I have a difficulty with the thought of harming such a unique life form doesn't sit well with me.

Velis: Then, Commander, I’m in good company. I believe it defies the very edict of the Federation to destroy a lifeform just because we don’t understand it.

It was a relief that one of his guests saw eye to eye with his perspective.  He still could not quite shake the feeling that he ought to know her, or perhaps that Kel ought to know Velis.

Kel: Let's get down to my lab on deck 9.  See what kind of plan we can develop.

Velis: ::nods:: I have some thoughts on what information will be most helpful and some methods to acquire it, but would be open to any suggestions from your team. Lieutenant Venn wants to destroy this creature. We need to give the Captain reasons to reconsider.

Kel: =/\= Kel to Wells.  We have a guest Rhodium.  Can you meet us in the life science lab? =/\=

Wells: =/\= Oui, Sir. I am already here… with Lyrik and Fraslil on duty. À bientôt.

((Life Sciences Lab, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

V'Len was only just getting used to the Ronin's science complex.  He knew the medical facility by muscle memory.  He could easily have found any of the wards blindfolded.  The Science complex, on the other hand, was newer.

Kel: Here we are. ::gesturing towards the door to Lab 3 aka Life Sciences::  I swear they move it on me.

Velis: Thank you, Yllom.

V'Len gave the woman a perplexed look.  Yllom Kel was a previous host, one who had been an artist.  V'Len's mind was flooded with various images, flowers, clouds and the many things she painted or sculpted.  Was that why Serin Velis seemed so familiar.

Velis: I beg your pardon, Commander. That was unprofessional and presumptuous of me.

Kel: ::waving his hand::  Not at all.  But how did you know one of my previous hosts was Yllom Kel?

Velis: ::shrugs:: To be honest, I don’t know. I just…it just slipped out.

Kel: We're putting a pin in this for now, but I'm genuinely curious. You seem somehow familiar to me as well, but it isn't coming to me at the moment.

The connections of the myriad symbionts was always an interesting topic of research.  They crossed paths often and there were numerous connections.  V'Len felt that Kel and Velis, if they had crossed paths were not enemies or lovers, but something else.  It would need to be dealt with later.

Velis: We’re missing a lot of data still. First and foremost, I would say we need to determine if the creature is sentient and, if so, how does it react to things in its environment that it doesn’t recognize? I’m sure we can use the limited reports from previous ships as a starting point.

Wells swung into view.

Kel: Lt. Serin Velis please meet Lt. Rhodium Wells.

Wells: Commander. ::giving Kel a nod, then holding out her hand to Velis:: And nice to meet you Lieutenant.

Where V'Len always seemed pretty high strung, Rhodiium seemed like she could relax in a dentist chair.

Kel:  Any guesses what what's going on Lt. Wells?  You have pretty good intuition.

The El-Aurian’s smile widened a little.

Wells: Only speculation. We are eager to hear what mystery you have brought us. I suspect you are here with something far more interesting.

Kel: ::smiling:: I think you'll like this one, we've recently had a related experience.

Velis: Response

Wells: We are ready to investigate, Planetary survey, long range data collection and analysis and exobotany are on duty today, along with your skillsets we have an excellent team of specialists at disposal. Where would you like us to start?

V'Len linked his padd to the computer and brought the blurry image of the unknown cosmozoan life form into view.

Kel:  Presently we are rushing toward this large and unknown cosmozoan life form.  Several ships have tried to approach with no luck, now it's the Ronin's turn.  What can you add Lt. Velis?

Wells/Velis: Response

V'Len brought up the logs from his very first mission and send them over to the station near Frasil and Lyrik.

Kel: During my first mission on the USS Thor I was able to communicate with a cosmozoan life form by converting it's magnetic oscillations into a holographic construct via the bioneural gel packs.  ::turning to Frasil and Lyrik:: I'd like you to set up a the same sort of collection mechanism. It's a long shot, but at least it's a start.

Wells/Velis: Response

The Saurian and the Bollian got to work.  V'Len turned his attention back to Rhodium and Serin, but was interrupted.

Evinrude: =/\= Evinrude to Commander Kel. Have a moment? =/\=

Kel:  =/\= Kel here Lieutenant.  How can I help? =/\=

Evinrude: =/\=Thank you, sir. I am aware that we made good speed to the rendezvous with the USS Goodall. Operations work team reports are coming in, and we're looking ship-shape and ready.

Kel:  =/\=That's excellent news. The ship will need to be in good shape for this mission.   =/\=

Evinrude: =/\= Well, that's my question. Where are we needed for the, ah, mission at hand? If, that is, I'm authorized to know. ::He added genuinely, aware of the air of secrecy.::

V'Len considered.  They were all headed to the same place and Niac had not ordered him or any of the other command staff not to talk about it.  He sent the coordinates to Evinrude.

Kel:  =/\= We're heading for a contact with a large ::beat:: very large life form.  I'm having my people make some slight modifications to a few of our sensors.  Also make sure our defensive systems are ready.  There's a chance we're not the only ones who'd like to meet this creature. =/\=

Wells/Velis: Response

Evinrude: =/\= Response? =/\=
