Wren: ::strained:: We’ve lost partial thrust from our engine, we’re going to start listing to the side. I can try and go fix it ::grabbing her kit::, but it might take a minute, I'll have a better idea of what we're dealing with if I could look at the engine itself.

Kessler: ::looking to Kel:: Gamma rays will play havoc with shields, but not as fast as they are with the modifications I have made. Something else is draining the shields other than the gamma rays.

Shortrith: The chronitons wouldn't do this, would they?

Wren: ::slipping out of her seat to kneel onto the floor:: Sorry, move, please, I need to get to that access panel. I’m checking to see if the second engine is damaged, or just offline. ::To De La Croix:: You too.

Kel/De La Croix: Response

Delphina ignored the doctor, unlocking the access panel, and pulling it open. Below her, most of the power coils burned bright blue, the heat coming off of them like waves on a desert’s summer day. Blinking, Wren cleared the dryness from her eyeballs, before leaning forward to look closer. Reaching down, Wren tapped her knuckle against the nearest coil a few times, making sure it wasn’t hot enough to burn, before running her hands along the inside walls. Satisfied it all seemed normal, she pulled herself back up.

Wren: We’re sending power to both engines, I think one isn’t receiving. ::climbing onto one of the empty seats:: Sorry, I need room again ::popping open a wall-hatch:: Something must have damaged the engine’s receivers, if I can-

Shortrith/Kel/De La Croix: Response

O’Connor: Look your highness. We’re almost stopped anyway. I could always let you out if you’d li..

O’Connor: Whoah. Where did that come from?

At first, Delphina didn’t hear him, too focused on the interior of the hatch, when something cast a shadow over the nearest window. Glancing up, Wren almost dropped her spanner in surprise. A gigantic object had appeared out of nowhere, and was now yawing towards them. Immediately, Delphina closed the hatch, stumbling a little as the shuttle jerked to a halt. oO Oh, thank you, probes. Good job, guys. Oo

Kessler: Scanning. ::beat:: The hull is composed of a number of different known materials and a handful I cannot identify. ::double beat:: Life signs Commander but they are not stable. Sensors cannot get a definitive lock.

Shortrit: My sensors can't get anything either.

Wren: It must have come out of the eddy, like the Kurosawa. ::reaching her arm into the hatch as far as it will go:: Poagie, I would love it if you could come here a second and hold this open.

Kel/De La Croix: Response

O’Connor: Ok then I guess, “When” did that come from?

Delphina winced as she twisted her arm deep inside the hatch, trying not to jerk away as the other ensign came over, holding the hatch more open. She could feel something down there, something that had come loose, but when her fingers touched it, it crumbled under her fingertips like the probe’s innards had back in the bay. oO Oh, that’s not good. That’s really not good. Okay, how bad is the damage? If only I could see it…. Oo. Frustrated at the lack of space, Wren pulled her hand out, wiping the black dust on her skirt, before sticking her head into the hatch. oO Yup, that looks to be about what I expected. But I thought we were shielded from the Chronitons? Oo

Wren: ::pulling her head back out:: The engine on this side has had its connection to its main power coil severed. It’s corroded completely. ::dropping back into her chair, leaving Poagie standing where she left him:: I can lower the emission of the working engine to stop us from going in a circle at least. We should be evening out now.

Kessler: ::turning to Kel:: Sir, we're moving. Sensors show we are closing on the object at 50 KPH. Shields are still draining, slowly but draining. Down to 68 percent now and phaser power has reduced 9 percent.

Shortrith: How's everyone faring?

Wren: oO I don’t know if she wants an honest answer to that Oo

Kel/De La Croix: Response

Kessler: Shields down another 11 percent Commander.

Delphina had just managed to get the engines more or less equalized when the shuttle was suddenly flooded with bright light, and a harsh, metallic scream roared through the cabin. Instinctively, Wren dropped her head, cupping her ears and squeezing her eyes shut. oO Flash-bang. Just don’t think, let it go through. You’ve been through this before. Oo She stayed absolutely still for a few seconds, the shriek echoing around in her head, twisting itself in the confusion and surprise of everyone else until they were indistinguishable from one another.

Kessler: Shields down another 11 percent Commander.

Kessler was talking, but Delphina couldn’t hear him. All she could do was force her eyes open to look at her monitor and try to find out where it was coming from.

Wren: I’m not picking up any specific emitter, I’m sending out a hail with a universal greeting on all frequencies on the off-chance it’s a ship. oO I don’t even know if they can hear me. Oo ::suddenly remembering:: Poagie.

Delphina scrambled out of her seat, grabbing the spasming Ferengi as the noise washed over her again. For a second, her thoughts were so scrambled that she wasn’t sure what to do. oO This is hurting him, I need to….. The plasma coils below the floor aren’t moving. The noise isn’t reaching down there. Oo

Wren: Forgive me, Poagie ::pushing him into the hatch, before yelling:: Stay down there until it stops!!

Kel/De La Croix/O'Connor: Response

Kessler: ::fingers jumping across the console:: Rotating shield harmonics but it does not seem to be helping Commander.

Shortrith/Kel/De La Croix: Response

Delphina winced as the sound finally subsided, and she yanked the other ensign up. Her ears were still ringing, and she couldn’t think clearly, but at least that damned noise had stopped.

Shortrith: It doesn't look like he's bleeding, thankfully. However, the area is most likely going to bruise at least.

Delphina sat up in surprise, eyes widening as she saw Kessler was unconscious. She scrambled to her feet, pulling Poagie up with her, before hurrying over to her station to see if the hail had gone through.

Kel/De La Croix: Response

Shortrith: Can someone pass me my tricorder? I just want to scan him to ensure everything inside is okay.

Wren: Here ::holding it out to them:: Sir, our shield is down to six percent, but the noise and lightshow seems to have stopped. No answer to the hail, though…

Kel/De La Croix: Response

Shortrith: ::accepting the tricorder:: Cheers.

Kel/De La Croix: Response

Wren: I'm doing preliminary scans on the object. As far as the computer can tell, it is a ship, but like everything else, the information is jumbled up.

Shortrith/Kel/De La Croix: Response

Delphina nodded, glancing over to Kessler, who still hasn't regained consciousness.

Wren: Flight controls have been locked to autopilot, but we're not going anywhere yet. Dr. De La Croix, is Poagie okay?

Shortrith/Kel/De La Croix: Response

Wren: well then why are you here??
