((OOC - with permission from the CO this marks the final sim of the mission for this scene as we begin to wrap up the mission now))

((Isolation Chamber - Deck 10 - USS Ronin))

Herbert: The code-base is moving too rapidly for me to keep up. Whatever it's executing, it seems to be pretty big.

Nemes: I don’t like that at all. I get all sorts of energy readings from …erm… the newer parts of the device. It seems we have triggered some safety protocol here. It’s definitely not from the Romulan part of the communication buoy – so much I can say.

Ava’s eyes raced across the terminal, Herbert was right. Whatever was happening was too fast and huge. It was as if something had been triggered when they sent off the polarised data stream. It had deactivated the other packages still within the wave, which meant that they had saved millions of lives.

However, it seemed to be at the expense of the Ronin.

Stone: Uh-oh.  The transport inhibitor is back up and I’ve lost the lock ::grabbing tricorder:: Commander, there’s power systems throughout the package coming online. Power emissions are spiking. This thing’s putting out more energy than a Labrador on amphetamines!

In any other circumstance Ava would have found the visual of that hilarious. Another reason to hate Emzai.

Herbert: Commander, you don’t think this is some kind of maleconite bomb, do you? Emzai’s final act - destroy the Ronin the same way that Grus Beta Three was?

Nemes: It was all a trap? That lunatic wanted us to try disabling the signal. It was part of her plan. But it would make sense. She wanted us to try that as she knew we would, right?

Munro: Seems like it. We should have seen this coming, she always had a back up plan in case we apprehended her.

Stone: I’ll try to override this inhibitor.

Ava allowed the officers to work in tandem with each other. The security officer and the counselor. Normally opposing skillsets, now in harmony as they tried to meld them together to figure out the mind of a madwoman.

Stone: Standby. Attempting override now.

There was a dull sound.

Herbert: Well… It was a good attempt… Any other suggestions?

Nemes: Could we use an EMP shut down the device?

Ava sighed, it was a good suggestion but it was unlikely to work. The device has fail safes and whatever sequence had been triggered was already in play. They need something to deactivate it and the only person who could do that was in the brig. And insane.

Then, from across the room, just when she thought all was lost.

Stone: Wait! Got it!! ::tapping away::  Yes!! ::punching the console::  I’ve locked onto the optronic cable. It’s not affected by the inhibitor as it’s not part of the system now that I pulled it away from the housing on the casing.  Lock established…Commander? ::looking over at Munro should the order come to beam it into space.::

Nemes: Response

Herbert: Commander? Maybe this is what she wants us to do? Transporter inhibitors work both ways. If it is a bomb, surely killing all of us and making the Captain watch is the way she’s going to enact her revenge. Beaming the Captain off-ship while we all perish sounds like a pretty grand finale to me…

Munro: I’m going to need a little more than a feeling on that one Counselor?

His palm hit his face as he realised he hadn’t been as clear as maybe he could have been.

Herbert: I mean if we can beam it, it can also beam him. Leave the inhibitor inhibiting and neither win. The only difference is that we have the advantage of being able to toss it out an airlock. She’s in the brig, as far as I’m aware, and can’t exactly do the same to the Captain. If we move quick enough, we might just outsmart her this time, not the other way around.

Nemes: ::more to herself:: That’ll be nice for a change…

Ava considered the scrolling code, and the increasing danger.

Munro: Okay let’s do it. We need something to move it.

Ava knew that they were only postponing a problem, this area of space was still filled with Soliton energy and if this device was to explode it would cause a chain reaction that would make this region of space impossible to travel in. Effectively it would cut off Proxima and Alpha Sigma from each other.

Stone: Responses

Herbert: There’s bound to be a grav-sled or two nearby, right? If all else fails, we just get the bridge to turn off the artificial gravity and we push it out the door…

Nemes: Commander, I … ::clearing her throat slightly:: I don’t think this is a good idea. We’re on deck 10. Part of the main computer core, the warp core and the torpedo magazine are here. If we get out of the containment field that we have here and this thing goes off, the effects will be catastrophic.

Before she could respond Karrod’s voice interrupted them.

Niac:  =/\= Niac to Munroe...stop what you're doing immediately and get your team out of the isolation chamber.  Emzai has agreed to disarm the device. =/\=

Ava wasn't one to challenge a commanding officer but she was also not keen on losing the ship either.

Munro:  =/\= Captain, it's not as simple as that this package is counting down a sequence we don't have time =/\=

Niac:  =/\= Of course it won't be that simple, Commander.  In fact, it'll be just like that time we went to Buenos Aires.  Evacuate your team, that's an order. =/\=

oO Buenos Aires? Oo

It took her several seconds to remember those hazy drunken days at the beach … and Evangeline the dancer… and then the call … and the rescue.

Munro: =/\= Understood, Captain. On it. Munro out =/\=

She turned to the team and a wide smile spread across her face.

Munro :: nods :: You heard him. Let's clear out. But first :: to Stone :: Pass me your combadge.

Stone: Response

Herbert/Nemes: Responses

Munro: You see, in Buenos Aires the Captain got tangled up in some unfortunate business. It was mostly my fault. In fact it was entirely my fault. There was alcohol involved. Tongo too. I had to get creative in helping him escape from five angry, and very very muscular Brazilians.

The ensign complied. She looked around the room, the foggy tides of her memory tried to pull a long ago memory … not to mention she was five cocktails down … but she moved over and laid the combadge on the floor. She hoped Emzai wouldn't notice and Karrod would.

Stone/Herbert/Nemes: Responses

She continued to manipulate Stone’s combadge.

Munro: Well, it's a classic, I created a distraction. Using a combadge. If you set the combadge at a frequency and a few tweaks. It will eventually overload. Kind of like a flash bang. Except this time I'm hoping the Captain will know what to do.

Stone/Herbert/Nemes: Responses

She laid the combadge down.

Munro: No matter what happens from here, we couldn't have done this without any of you.

Raga: =/\= Bridge to Munro, what’s the progress on the packages? =/\=

Munro: =/\= The Captain has instructed us to leave and evacuate Sickbay he's making his way here now =/\=

Toryn let out a curt exhale at the answer. Of course Emzai had booby trapped the damned things. He trusted Karrod would get something out of her.

Raga: =/\= Can we isolate the package in some way, or beam it into space? =/\=

Munro: =/\= No sir, we would risk triggering it. It has fail safes for it's fail safes. I think the Captain has a plan =/\=

Aa they wrapped up and helped with the evacuation of Sickbay she couldn't help but look back at the combadge. She hoped Karrod knew what he was doing.
