((Corridor, Deck 10, USS Ronin))
Shortrith: That makes lots of sense.
Raga: It was something I had long pondered on. Sure, it was most likely that most if not every Starfleet crew were forged through their shared experiences just as tightly as we were. And having been on this ship, serving with this crew I’m glad to find it’s true. It’s why I’m grateful to have taken the leap off the mountain and come here. I’d dare say the bonds I’ve forged here are stronger than those before.
Shortrith: I can certainly understand that a shared experience can bring a whole group together.
Raga: To quote an old Al-Leyan philosopher, “The bonds that are tempered in experience are oft forged stronger than the bonds of birth.”
The pair continued walking, hearing echoes of laughter in separate rooms. Renaie smiled softly, glad that some people weren't as traumatised by the plague than others were.
Shortrith: Do you still keep in touch with them?
Raga: Indeed. Some at least, and not as often as I should I suppose. I’m sure Serala would appreciate more frequent contact. She particularly is always eager to hear about Samier and Zaraiya. I haven’t received any messages from most of them, but I suppose that’s no reason for me to not reach out myself. It’s nice to even just get a missive because someone was thinking of you, right?
Shortrith: I suppose so, I did promise some people that I'd keep in touch before I left.
Raga: We’ll have plenty of time to do so. Given our mandated R&R on the Farm until Division Fourteen is done with their poking and scanning.
Shortrith: What do you plan on doing there?
Raga: I skimmed through the data on what the facilities offer. Personally, I’m most interested in the terrain. Endicronimas Four has some exquisite mountains. I’d like to try climbing at least a few before we leave. There’s a particular peak in the northern hemisphere that’s in a band of near constant cloud formations. Apparently from the peak the aurora borealis is visible.
Shortrith: That sounds quite fascinating.
Commander Raga nodded and smiled. His owl even hooted for emphasis from his shoulder.
Raga: I always try to climb at least one mountain, regardless of its elevation on every world we visit if possible. Aside from this ship, crew and my family it’s what I love most. The challenge is usually more technical than physical unless we’re on a high gravity planet. My strength makes it easier to climb, but my increased mass means I can’t use handholds that others might. It’s all worth it though, getting to the top. Seeing the view and then jumping off and flying back down.
Renaie's smile widened as they listened.
Shortrith: That sounds really interesting. I'll have to check it out as well.
Raga: Anything you’re looking forward to seeing or doing down there while we’re here?
Shortrith: I'm not sure, honestly. I like the idea of mountain climbing, as I'm a pretty outdoorsy person myself - I walked the Kokoda Track on Earth during my holidays when I was in university, so I might do that as well.
Raga: Response
Shortrith: Yeah, I definitely think so. I'll plan for that.
Renaie noticed their office coming up in their path.
Shortrith: And there's my office, I probably should go and prepare for my next session. Shall I talk to you later?
Raga: Response
Shortrith: Will do, have a good one! Thank you for a good conversation.
Raga: Response
Renaie waved goodbye to the First Officer, then turned into their office.
