((Counsellor's Office - Medical Complex - Deck 10 - USS Ronin))

T’Fearne stood outside the counsellor's office, arms crossed, golden shoulders stiff with a reluctance she refused to name.

It had been nearly a year since she’d transferred aboard the Ronin, and somehow she had managed to miss any check in with the ship's counsellor.

Not intentionally. Or at least… she hoped not.

She liked to think it was the demands of her security duties and some of the unusual missions that had kept her away. But the protocols were clear. All personnel were required to undergo periodic mental health evaluations for the safety and wellbeing of the crew. Especially those who carried phasers.

She, should've known better.

She did know better.

And now, standing here, half-annoyed with herself, half-dreading the awkward necessity, she was determined to correct the oversight. At least she could fold this into her actual duties. Clearing two security flags with one sweep.

And August Winslett was flagged as a potential security risk! T’Fearne glanced down at the PADD in her hand. Lieutenant JG August Winslett, recently transferred from the USS Astraeus, his basic security file and service history, his file flagged for a standard security recertification.

As much as she may be an issue for him, he was also potentially an issue for her where the safety and security of the Ronin was concerned.

She tapped the door chime.

A moment later, the doors parted with the familiar soft whisper of hydraulics.

She had been expecting a man in the Starfleet counsellor blue. Instead, Winslett stood in the threshold, a Terran, approximately her age, wearing a cardigan that was definitely not standard issue. He looked more like a young literature professor than a counsellor, but he wore an expression of faint curiosity on his face and in his empathic aura.

The Vulcazoid switched her PADD to her left hand, cleared her throat and stepped forward, her expression neutral and professional.

T’Fearne: Greetings, Lieutenant. Apologies if I’ve interrupted at an inconvenient time. I’m Security Officer T’Fearne.

She extended her hand in a Terran-style handshake, a gesture she’d grown accustomed to at the Academy, and now used often among her mostly human crewmates.

Winslett: Response

T’Fearne: Yes sir. Could I have a few moments of your time?

Winslett: Response

At his beckon, she stepped into the room. The counsellor's office was expectedly cosy, warm lighting, a faint aroma of something fruity sweet and herbal that she couldn’t quite identify tickled her nose, and the furniture seemed designed for conversation rather than formality. It was a reflection of moments of her childhood that put her slightly off balance at the memories.

She perched gingerly on the edge of the couch, back straight and faced the man.

T’Fearne: Part of my duties occasionally involve updating crew security certifications. Since you're newly assigned to the Ronin, your file's been flagged for recertification. If you have a few minutes, I’d like to conduct your interview and update your file.

Winslett: Response

She hesitated a moment. Then her shoulders went tight with discomfort.

T’Fearne: I also realised…The recent missions have kept me... occupied. I haven't exactly made time for a proper check-in with the ship's counsellor since coming aboard. I suppose now is as good a time as any. What would you like to know?

Winslett: Response
