Marty’s fingers skated over his console, trying to get a tight enough beam, though this was starting to be a problem he needed to solve.
Carpenter: Filling 'em fulla daylight, boss!
Marty noticed Commander Carpenter unloading the phaser banks as the Ronin started her last ditch run.
Sims: RESPONSE
Niac: RESPONSE
Marty noticed that a data packet had been received from the Excalibur.
oO At least something is getting through Oo
Carpenter: Chief Alieth wants to try ANOTHER web? An "anti-Web"?!
Marty shook his head as he was sure she said another anti-web. The power that would be needed might not be enough to counteract the S-wave gun.
Tucker:::eyebrows lifted in shock:: Is she out of her Vulcan mind? I don’t think we’ve got the juice to activate another beam, and even if we did, we’d blow the deflector.
He was pretty sure that, at this point, it didn’t matter. They were either going to live through this or not. It was fifty-fifty at this point in the game.
Sims: RESPONSE
Marty was half paying attention to what Sims had to say. As he was sure it was important, Marty was lost in his brain going over scenarios and just where he could get the power to the deflector, enough to be of some use,
Niac: RESPONSE
Carpenter: Then we use it all. We funnel everything, and I mean EVERYTHING into the deflector pulse to match the Khitomer's. Weapons, shields, life support, the core, we push it all out with the Kitty's chronoton and into their stupid slimy, crystalline faces. We already have the counterwave formula, if we just-
Another hollow TH-THOOOM boomed through the phaser fire. The "Gun-Ship"'s massive barrel was starting to gather energy once more. And their battered scopes and sensors were screaming out the proof. They were gathering a last-ditch S-Wave...
Carpenter: Now or never, sir. If we don't push them back now...we won't at all.
Niac/Sims: RESPONSE
Marty understood what the captain was saying but still had reservations.
Tucker: You sure, sir?
Niac/Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Tucker: ::nodding at the captain:: Aye sir. Cutting all life support and diverting it to the deflector. I’ve also diverted the warp core into the deflector; the beam will blow out the deflector…if anyone cares….
Carpenter was still firing the phasers, though their strength was waning. So Marty took the rest of that power and diverted it to the deflector. He couldn’t see her reaction, but Marty could pretty much guess her reaction.
Niac/Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Tucker: Alright, I’ve got a massive power spike, and I need to get rid of it before we explode. Would you like me to release that energy skipper?
Niac/Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Marty gave the Captain a devil-may-care grin.
Tucker: One deflector beam coming right up!
The whole time, Marty had been watching the “Gunship" as it powered up for another S-Wave burst. If they could get this off before the ship fired theirs, the beam could overpower the gunship and hopefully disable the beast and put it out of their misery.
Tucker pressed the button to trigger the deflector shield without wasting another nanosecond. The beam lanced out as the computer reminded them they only had thirty minutes of usable oxygen. Marty was confident that it would all be over sooner than that. The beam connected with the gunship right down the barrel of the massive S-Wave cannon.
What happened next was nothing short of spectacular. Along with the bean from the Khitomer hitting the same place and crossing the streams, explosions moved like waves across the beach along the top hull of the gunship. Just after the beam left the deflector dish, it exploded in a shower of sparks and flame. This rocked the ship, causing it to list in one direction, no longer facing the large ship.
As the gunship exploded in fury, those on the bridge of the Ronin knew what was coming, and everyone tried to brace themselves for the incoming shock wave. But no amount of bracing would help; they were at the leading edge.
The shockwave impacted the Ronin. Immediately, the crew was tossed from where they stood or sat. Alarms of all sorts pierced through the loud noise of bending durainiam and exploding EPS conduits, and more ceiling tiles fell to the deck, just missing the Captain sitting in the pilot's seat. Soon, the ship stopped shaking, and the only thing making any noise was the myriad of alarms going off.
Niac/Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Tucker: We’re venting atmo on several decks, and life support is all but depleted because of that. On the bright side, communications are up and running, and Commander Carpenter, you’re free to contact Excalibur at your leisure.
Niac/Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Marty listened in as the communications came online. There was some static at the start, but after a bit of fine-tuning, the Excalibur was coming in loud and clear.
Tucker: Can the give us a helping hand? We’re going to have to start holding our breath very soon.
As if on cue the computer chimed with a warning.
Computer: Warning life support offline, five minutes of oxygen left.
Excalibur: =/\= RESPONSE =/\=
Niac: RESPONSE
Excalibur: =/\= RESPONSE =/\=
Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Tucker's hands danced along his console, watching damage reports from that last shockwave. He needed to get down there and marshall the minions to prepare for a power transfer from the Excalibur. He had never done a ship to ship power sharing, but there was a first time for everything. The more he thought about it, the more Sims could use the experience.
Tucker: Captain, I need to head to engineering to see this power swap. And if you don’t mind, I’ll take Ensign Sims with me.
Niac/Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Marty nodded at the captain and turned to Sims.
Tucker: Let’s go, rookie, we’ve got a power transfer to oversee.
Niac/Carpenter/Sims: RESPONSE
Marty motioned for Sims to follow him to the turbolift to the right of the main viewscreen. Once inside, he held the door for Sims.
