Beck: =/\= Beck to Kel. Just finished putting together my shortlist, and it's very short. Doctor Shortrith and I will be at your disposal. =/\=

Quentin tried to keep a straight face when he realized how many times he'd said 'short' in succession, which grew a little harder to do when he noticed the look on Renaie's face, as if they were also trying to keep it straight. He was just thankful Kel couldn't see them, or he might have lost it.

Kel: =/\= Excellent =/\=

There was a momentary pause, likely because his former boss was considering what to do, and he managed not to let it put him on edge.

Kel: =/\= What are you doing presently? =/\=

Beck: =/\= I intended to do some investigation and research here in the Xenobiology lab for the short term, but if you've got a better idea, I'm all ears. =/\=

His cheeks colored slightly at his fourth use of the word 'short', and he knew he only noticed it because he'd noticed the other three before.

Shortrith: =/\= Anything we can do help from here? =/\=

Another brief pause, but shorter this time.

Kel: =/\= I'm trying to put recreate a process from the Thor. I used bioneural gel packs to process magnetic data from a cosmozoan and turn it into a holographic representation.  What do you think Dr. Beck?  Can we do that here? =/\=

Slim, brown brows lifted, nearly disappearing into his hairline as Quentin considered the suggestion.

Beck: =/\= Sexy, I like it. I'll have to see how many we need to process the data from our UFO, but assuming it works, it would be a helluva lot better than trying to unblur that picture as we approach. ::voice soft:: I wonder if there's any chance there's magnetic data already present in the readings they gave us. =/\=

Shortrith: =/\= I'm not entirely sure. Has anything come through since the initial photo? =/\=

Kel: =/\= I'll send you my notes from the Thor.  Maybe in addition to magnetic fluctuation we can do EM emissions, color fluctuations and any other parameters that could be communications. =/\=

Quentin nodded, shooting the Klingon a look of triumph as he smacked the back of his fist against his palm.

Beck: =/\= I can work with that. ::to Renaie:: Think you can make any sense of what it's trying to say if this works?  =/\=

Shortrith: =/\= Possibly? It depends on what the entity does next. =/\=

Kel: =/\= See what you can do.  Kel out. =/\=

Beck: =/\= Will do. Thanks, Commander. Beck out. =/\=

The comm closed. The Doctor arched a brow as he considered Kel's suggestion, a grin slowly forming as he shot a look over at Shortrith. He motioned to the library computer before starting to cross the lab towards one of the work tables where some of his tools and experiments were spread out.

Beck: Do me a favor, run a query on how many bioneural gel packs we have in storage. And, hell, might as well see how many are actually in use right now throughout the ship.

Shortrith: Response

Grabbing a cart from the far wall, he scooted it over to the table and started sweeping some of his gear onto it with his arm.

Beck: Considering the potential size of this thing, I'm concerned we might not have enough processing power with just the gel packs that we've got for backup. I'm wondering if we would need to patch it through the computer system and use the active ones, too.

Shortrith: Response

He nodded pleasantly, moving the cart to the side before tapping rapidly at the screen on the corner of the table he'd just cleared.

Beck: Hoh, yeah, potentially very dangerous. If our calculations are off by even a fraction, we could burn out the entire computer system trying to generate a holoprojection of this thing. Could leave us dead in the water. Kind of exciting, actually.

Shortrith: Response

Beck: I've got holoprojectors built into this table to help me work at scale; I'm going to need to modify it to use V'Len's idea. If it does cause a burnout, I'd rather it happen to an easily replaceable table than one of the holodecks.

Shortrith: Response
