Xilva didn't escape the watchful notice of the medical team when they made their way to the bridge - and while grateful she didn't have blood streaking down her face and the pain in her head had subsided thanks to medication, they did confirm that she was definitely concussed. At least they didn't take her off-duty - being useless was her greatest fear.

No, now cleaned up, suited up, and ordered into the Narhelion, she took a quick moment to get herself oriented. The creature was mesmerizing on the viewscreen, and even moreso in-person. Even in its weakened state, there was a strange beauty in it. While Xilva was no empath, she could still figure out by the lights inside that Narhelion was grateful, almost gleeful.

Perhaps, if she was lucky, she'd hear all the tones of its voice again - but for now, it was time to get to work.

oO Remember that you're the new kid - the disposable one. Hopefully whoever screwed up your placement isn't indirectly responsible for the death of a being who's the last of her species. oO

Kel:  Dr. La Croix, are we ready to get started?

De La Croix: Response

Kel:  Ok. Team our first job is to get this mess cleaned up.  Lt. Velis, Ensign Wren, there's an interface over there, see if you can bring up some kind of schematic on how this section is supposed to look.  Dr. La Croix can then plan our surgical strategy. Let me know when you have a plan and we'll get started.

De La Croix/Wren/ Velis: Response

Kel:  Ensigns Akani, Ensign Marsek, we'll start debriding this wound.  Set phasers to low power, frequence 8.41.  That should shatter these crystals.  Don't do anything with these two ::gesturing:: I think they're plugging holes.

Marsek: ::carefully sets her phaser to the correct levels:: Aye, sir.

Akani: Response

That wasn't out of her wheelhouse - sure, she may have passed her phaser target test by the skin of her teeth after multiple attempts (good thing she traded theoretical physics tutoring for target practice with a security-track friend), but this wasn't something moving - and it was huge. Before she could turn to start the task ahead of her, she heard her name being called again.

Kel:  Ensign Marsek, my apologies for not being able to welcome you aboard properly.  I hope we can have a proper introduction when all this is over.

Xilva studied the commander carefully, her expression still guarded and neutral. She kind of wished she still had the dried blood on her face, it would have given her the perfect 'I'm tougher than I look' facade.

oO So is this how you get promoted? By not being able to understand the difference between 'engineering gremlin' and 'dirt analyzer'? I'm filing for transfer if I survive this. It's not going to work. And another on my 'actual formal introduction' list - at least it won't be for long once they actually see my record. Oo

Marsek: Of course, sir. When there aren't any more pressing matters.

Akani: Response

Once the commander turned his attention towards the more surface-level crystals, Xilva did the same. It was easier to just get to work, especially if it was something that was going to help the Narhelion. She had a surprising amount of fondness towards the creature, even if she wasn't going to let it show outwardly.

Carefully, she watched as Commander Kel destroyed the first crystal - that powder that came from its disintegration didn't look like something she wanted to inhale. Judging by the angle which he aimed and the one she was nearest, it only took a few quick calculations to figure out the proper trajectory to avoid contact with the powder, either by touch or her lungs. She hated to admit that physics was one of her strongest subjects.

Xilva worked in silence for a while, only punctuated by the hum of the phasers and the brittle noise of the crystals crumbling into pieces. It was strange to her that something so fragile could cause so much damage to something so wonderous. As she worked steadily, choosing seemingly odd (yet efficient) places to aim, her thoughts wandered back to the numerous scans that she had done on the damage back on the Ronin.

...They may have looked like crystals...

Marsek: Commander, these are tetryonic missiles degrading at an unusually rapid rate. I scanned these repeatedly on the ship. We presumed it was the Narhelion's immune system working in overdrive to remove them.

Kel/Akani: Response

Marsek: With all of the subspace interference, I wasn't able to get a clear picture of how Narhelion responds to tetryonic radiation.

She chose to leave her concerns out of it - she was no doctor, no exobiologist - no scientist. All she had to go on were required classes and the papers she constantly proofread for her exobiologist twin sister - at least she remembered a few things from it.

Kel/Akani: Response

Marsek: I can check to see if it's still emitting, sir - or if Narhelion found some way to negate radiation exposure.

Kel/Akani: Response
