((Bridge, Deck 3, USS Ronin))
V'Len had, only once, commanded the bridge during hostile action. That had been during the encounter with the Aba Ara and it's cargo of tree like denizens. The Aba Ara was under attack by another, spider like vessel, and V'Len had succeeded in dismembering one of the arms of the craft. The goal had been a warning shot. Since then he had spent some time studying battle tactics and hoped he could do better this time around. As he stepped onto the bridge he noted that Wren and T'Fearne had arrived, but he did not see O'Connor. There was something markedly different about T'Fearne, but in the stress of the moment V'Len could not quite place it.
Kel: Lieutenant are you able to man your station?
T'Fearne: ::trying to sound reassuring, but ruining the effect by rubbing her chin with the back of her hand:: Yes, Captain.
V'Len thought about requesting a box or step stool, but figured the Vulcan would not appreciate it.
Kel: Ensign Wren, I need a systems status update.
Wren: All systems are operating normally. I’m seeing that the engineering crew has seen to any previous damage, and we’re running at ninety percent efficiency.
It was at least reassuring that once more the Ronin had come through things not too much worse for wear. It was a tough ship, with a crew used to keeping her running. He made his way over to the command seat.
Kel: Where is Mr. O'Connor?
Nicolau: I thought he was with one of the away teams, sir. Lt. Vomek asked me to cover the conn until he was back aboard. I hope that's alright.
Wren: He was injured on the mission, sir, he’s currently in sickbay. ::after an awkward pause:: He fell through a hole.
T'Fearne: ::adding, without looking up from tactical:: It was a sharp hole.
V'Len looked around in exasperation.
Kel: Who else is missing?
Nicolau: Uh...I believe Major Singh mentioned something about several of the Valkyries and one of the search runabouts vanishing....but after engineering did....whatever they did....I think they reappeared. Uh. Sir. With the exception of the away teams I'm not showing any of our runabouts or fighters unaccounted for at the moment.
Wren: Shortrith came back with us, but she transported directly into sickbay with O’Connor.
T'Fearne: We saw Lieutenant Nemes in sickbay also. Suit contamination and possible underlying injury.
V'Len exhaled loudly. He'd have to add it to his growing list of problems.
Kel: OK. What's the status of this vessel that joined us?
Nicolau: Holding position just outside of weapons range, sir, but based on their speed when they entered the system they could close that distance very quickly. I think....I think they're waiting for us to do something...or maybe they're just being jerks. Uh. Sir. Sorry sir.
Wren: ::squinting::..... oO I don’t recognize that ship build…. ::pulling up a record of all recognized ships that the Federation has access to:: I’m accessing federation memory banks to see if I can recognize the make. Might give us a chance to prepare ourselves a little.
V'Len bit his lower lip. The vessel before them had the lines of a Tholian ship, an elongated diamond shape. That was however, where the similarities ended. From the forward section stretched long arms their function was unknown, but they were dotted with crystalline structures in orange, pink, copper and ochre.
T'Fearne: Their shields are up. No active targeting scans detected yet, Captain. ::confused:: They have weapons, but they are not charged. They may be being cautious.
Kel: Lt. T'Fearne make sure our shields are up.
V'Len was quite certain that the shields were in place given the particle and radiolitic activity in the area.
Nicolau: Well that's some of the only good news sir. Whatever that pulse did stabilized spatial conditions around the ship...at least for now. We should be able to navigate freely if we need to without falling into a...space...hole. Sir.
V'Len nodded.
Wren: Sir, it looks like it’s Sheliak. Should we hail them?
T'Fearne: ::peering over the consol:: The Sheliak are precise about territorial and contractual boundaries. If they’re here, they likely believe they have a legal claim to the moon’s dome’s, technology and personnel.
Kel: Indeed, Administrator tr'Kharis made it clear the Lattice Alliance was the benefactor of the facility. Can we hail them Ensign Wren?
Nicolau: Response
Wren: Oh, they’re… just out of range of our communicators…. Hm
So they were just waiting out there? Were they here to help secure the reactor? If so they should have made contact. It was more likely they were here to make sure the Ronin cleared out. V'Len sat down in the command chair. He needed to buy Tucker and his team time to get things under control.
T'Fearne: They may be testing our responses. Or trying to force us to close distance on them so they retain the diplomatic advantage. I recommend waiting for them to approach us.
Kel: I'm inclined to agree Lt. T'Fearne. There's no reason to rush these things.
Nicolau: Response
Wren: If it’s safe to move forward, maybe we could get close enough to try to warp some of the Tholians off-planet as well? They may be responsible for what’s happening down there, but…
V'Len considered. In the past one Tholian scientist had been of use, but as far as tr'Kharis had said, there were only workers and warriors on the surface below. Bringing Tholian warriors aboard the Ronin seemed like a very bad idea.
T'Fearne: You mean transport some of the Tholians onboard? For bargaining power, ensign? We do have two smaller Tholians in the brig. I’m not sure we could differentiate the lifesigns of the ones on the moon with all the radiation…
V'Len too wondered what might come through the transporter, particularly without pattern enhancers.
Kel: Let's put that thought on hold Ensign Wren. We need to get Tucker and his team back as well as the wounded before we start pulling out potentially dangerous Tholians.
V'Len's statement made him blink twice at himself. As a doctor he should have been concerned with any injured on the moon below. Now as the CO he had other priorities. It still surprised him how quickly he had brushed aside his more compassionate nature.
Nicolau/Wren: Response
T'Fearne: I can definitely seep us looking non-threatening, should we prefer to appear in a position weaker than we are, sir.
V'Len glanced at T'Fearne.
Kel: Good idea Lieutenant. Ensign Wren, can we create some fake readings showing the Ronin being in worse shape than it is? I believe "deceptive signaling" is what naturalists would call it.
Nicolau/Wren: Response
V'Len waited as adjustments were made.
T'Fearne: Lieutenant. What do you see?
V'Len looked up at Nicolau.
Kel: Lt. Nicolau. You have something?
Nicolau/Wren: Response
V'Len's hand rose to his chin. What kind of game was the vessel playing? He needed more insight.
Kel: Are any of our probes still out there? Can we use them to get more intel on that vessel?
T'Fearne/Nicolau/Wren: Response
Kel: That Lattice Alliance has proven tenacious time and again. I won't charge in until I know what I'm dealing with.
T'Fearne/Nicolau/Wren: Response
Kel: Any response now that's we're modulating our power grid.
T'Fearne/Nicolau/Wren: Response
