((Deck 14, Main Engineering, Pool Table, USS Ronin))
The three officers may have found the solution to counter the effects of the black hole and buy the Ronin enough time to retrieve its away team. Lieutenant Morgan had come up with the idea of emitting Hawking radiation toward the black hole using the deflector to reduce it—or even destroy it.
Zh'taan: The deflectors are ready, Lieutenant Morgan.
He remained focused on the deflectors, prepared to intervene if the stability of the Hawking radiation began to falter. That said, his skin was starting to turn pale with fear…
Morgan: Here goes nothing! ::She slammed her hand down on the engage button::
He couldn’t help but close his eyes when the lieutenant pressed the button… but nothing happened. At least, nothing negative for the Ronin. Kelor checked the sensors, and it appeared that the deflectors were indeed channeling Hawking radiation straight into the black hole, whose gravitational pull had significantly diminished. It seemed the Ronin would not have to worry about the black hole for quite some time.
Zh'taan: ::Lets out a sigh:: Your plan seems to have worked, Lieutenant Morgan. I’ll recalibrate the deflectors so they can emit the radiation continuously.
Esot: =/= Esot to Shortrith and Zh'taan. Please meet me in Shuttlebay 1 on Deck 9 as soon as possible. We will be collaborating with the Engineering team still on the surface to perform some repairs before extracting them. Bring along any emergency equipment you deem fit. =/=
oO Oh no… Oo
Zh'taan: I have to go, I’m sorry… ::Slightly embarrassed, he headed toward the exit of Main Engineering::. Good luck with the rest. ::He tapped his commbadge:: =/= Zh'taan to Esot. I’ll be there as soon as possible. Uh… Zh'taan out. =/=
He then made his way quickly to the armory to pick up a phaser and a tricorder before heading to Deck 9, a knot forming in his stomach.
((Shuttlebay 1, Deck 9, USS Ronin))
He entered the shuttlebay with a brisk but somewhat uncertain stride. He thought he spotted Ensign Esot near one of the shuttles. He joined him, and they were soon joined by Lieutenant Shortrith.
Esot: Salutations. I will brief the two of you on the situation once we are ready to launch. ::looking at them both:: Are either of you rated for flying a shuttle?
Zh'taan: I’ve flown shuttles in simulators at the Academy for fun… ::he said shyly::
Shortrith: Response
The three of them boarded the shuttle and moved toward the controls beside Ensign Esot.
Esot: I have some experience myself, but very limited—if either of you would care to volunteer, please have at it.
Zh'taan: I’ll do my best. ::He takes the pilot’s seat.::
Shortrith: Response
He began powering up the shuttle.
Esot: We have discovered there is a Sencha-based reactor on the planet's surface that has been leaking for quite some time, and this has been the source of most of the problems we have encountered upon our arrival in the system. I was able to carry out limited repairs while in the habitat dome, but resources were scarce and I was unable to reach the other dome.
Zh'taan: ::Still trying to get the shuttle fully operational::. I see. So it’s because of this reactor that the ship is surrounded by chroniton particles, preventing it from going to warp…
Shortrith: Response
Esot: We have an Engineering team made up of Commander Tucker and Lieutenants Kessler and Evinrude who should be able to carry out repairs, though they are also dealing with the Tholian threat on the surface. We will need to provide whatever support we can to enable them to complete the repairs. There is also a remote component involved, but I should be able to handle that once they are finished.
At the mention of Tholians on the surface, Kelor swallowed hard and nearly lost his composure.
Zh'taan: Is it possible that we might also encounter enemies down there…?
Shortrith: Response
Esot: =/= Anna Pavlova to Bridge. We are requesting clearance to launch. =/=
Kel/Bridge: =/= Response
He finally managed to start the shuttle.
Zh'taan: Shuttle ready for departure. I’ve entered the moon’s coordinates into the computer.
Esot/Shortrith: Response
Once clearance was granted by the bridge, the shuttle lifted off toward Sigma Moon. The journey lasted several dozen minutes.
Zh'taan: Ensign Esot, uh… what do you know about this Sencha radiation emitted by the reactor?
Esot/Shortrith: Response
They finally arrived at the moon. Kelor took every precaution to land the shuttle as smoothly as possible. The path seemed clear for the three officers.
Zh'taan: ::He exits the shuttle first, tricorder in hand:: I’m not detecting any life signs in the immediate vicinity.
Esot/Shortrith: Response
