Dom slid a packet into the teapot, pouring in the hot water carelessly, squeezing several lemon wedges with enthusiasm into the liquid, and then dropped the rind in with a splash. Then she dunked the tea packet, up and down in the water and then left the infusion to steep.
Lightly herbed steam with a hint of lemon floated through the room.
Ślimak: Got it! ::firm nod:: Also if you have any broken tech or anything in our quarters, just let me know. I’m really good a repairwork. I’ll fix it right up.
She pulled a compact pocket wielder out of her pocket and twirled it around her hand with practiced ease.
Ślimak: ::grinning:: Did you bring any interesting mementos from home to the Alpha Isles?
Shortrith: Just some photos and some books. Also some more personal items, things friends made me when I was younger.
Ślimak: Hmmm, I’d love to see some of your photos, sometime, if you want to show me.
Renaie smiled as the smell of the tea wafted through the room.
Shortrith: What's your go-to drink order from the replicator when you're in a rush?
Dom pulled the last few tools and electronic contraptions from her crate and tucked them away as they waited for the tea flavours and antioxidants to bloom in the hot water.
Ślimak: Oh, it’s an oatmilkflatwhitetwosugars. ::rattled off in one breath:: But that's fuel, that’s different from tea. Tea is for relaxation and contemplation. What about you?
Shortrith: For me, I suppose, a raktajino - typical enough, I suppose, 'cause I'm a Klingon.
Her new Kling-Oz Roommate went to their side of the room and retrieved a small hacky sack with a smile.
Shortrith: Do you like making things?
Dom grinned as she looked at the hacky sack, but faltered slightly at the question.
Ślimak: I suppose you could say that I like making things…or fixing things. I sort of have to.
She stopped abruptly, biting her tongue.
oO No need to worry the nice officer about that. Oo
Her personal curse was not exactly a first-day roommate conversation. If Renaie decided Dom was too much trouble, they could absolutely request reassignment—and Dom doubted she’d land somewhere this comfortable again.
Shortrith: Response
Ślimak: Let’s just say that I come from a long line of technophobes and I’m trying to break the mould. ::clearing throat:: Oh—is that a hacky sack? I’ve not played with one of those in a while. Did you make it?
She held out her hands in a sign she was ready to catch if Renaie threw.
Shortrith: Response
Ślimak: ::warming again, eyes lighting up:: That’s really cool. I love things like that. Maybe you can teach me sometime? Oh, tea is ready.
She tossed it back to them underhand.
Shortrith: Response
Poured the tea into the colourful ceramic cups and brought them over to the small desk with two chairs, taking a seat. She had this new roommate for less than an hour and already she thought this was going to be fun.
Ślimak: So, tell me more about yourself, Renaie. What is it like being a ship’s counsellor?
