Wren: ::softly:: I don’t think I can do that, I- she said this was a beginner class.
Taj’el: They may be attempting to impress you. If it had been stated that this was a class for beginners, they will not expect more from you. They will teach you the basics.
Delphina blinked, a little surprised as they reached over and adjusted her body until she was in what she supposed was probably first position. She’d seen something like it at one of Mordren’s meets as a child. Then she winced as she saw T’Fearne take a nasty hit.
Solana: Response
T’Fearne: It’s fine, a momentary distraction. Let us continue.
Wren: ::to Taj’el:: Wait, how did she do that? It looked like- ::realizing that Taj’el seems to be following this closer than her:: Do you remember any of this being covered at the academy?
Taj’el: The basics, yes. Watch their fundamentals before attempting to copy everything. Observe where their feet are positioned, and their hips.
T’Fearne: Shall we go faster, Senior Chief? Or would you prefer to keep things simple for this demonstration?
Solana: Response
Delphina tried to copy the movement, before realizing it was probably futile to try and copy two people in full motion. Instead, she decided to focus on what she could remember for later.
Taj’el: Foundation is key, and most of your power will come from your hips. Males tended to have more arm power, with exceptions, of course. I am sure they will go over it further; however, I believed they were simply having fun now.
T’Fearne: ::starting to breathe more deeply, warmth spreading through her muscles:: Indeed. We are just starting to warm up.
Wren: When Mordren fought he typically used his opponents’ height and strength against them by going low. ::shrugs:: You gotta strategize when you’re the only five and a half footer on the team.
Solana: Response
Taj’el: Different styles focused on different things. They are focused more on trading and blocking attacks. Suus Mahna, however, is more evasive and centered on redirecting attacks. I admit I do not know much about Tassa’Akai beyond its cultural background.
T’Fearne: ::addressing Taj’el, but careful not to take her eyes off Jenta again:: Tassa’Akai is like a dance of defence. It uses telescoping blunt batons in a series of precision strikes, deflection and dodges. It relies less on strength or direct attack. What sets it apart from other martial art forms is its reliance on a slight telepathic use to predetermine what one's opponent is going to do next and vice versa. ::Looking back to Jenta:: As much as I am enjoying being tenderised up and down the beach by you, Senior Chief, your other students are being neglected. Might we continue with the knives?
Solana: Response
Wren: oO Oh, dear the knives. But it looks as though they’re winding down, which means…..Oo
They ended with a bow, and, deep down, Delphina knew that she was next.
Taj’el: Impressive, to you both. I can see you are clearly proficient in your abilities.
T’Fearne: ::collecting her knife from the sand:: Thank you.
Wren: ::small applause:: That was great! oO I think I finally understand where those dents near engineering came from. And the ones behind sick bay….. Maybe all the internal dents on the ship? Am I pulling a sisyphus by un-denting them? Oo
Solana: Response
Delphina snapped back to attention as she saw T’Fearne was taking position in front of her, and quickly checked her stance to what Taj’el had shown her earlier. Her hands probably weren’t supposed to be up like a praying mantis, though. Slowly, she lowered her hands to her side, before realizing that probably was too open, and brought them halfway up.
T’Fearne: ::To Wren:: It’s ok, this part is beginner level and don’t worry. You won’t hurt me. Let loose and have fun with it.
Wren: ::small laugh:: Oh, believe me, I’m not worried about me hurting you. Um….. do I just go for it?
T’Fearne/Solana/Taj’el: Response
Wren: Okay…. Gotcha.
Taking herself back to the combat classes she’d scraped through, Delphina replicated the standard starting Mok’bara pose, before diving forwards. Using the instability of the sand, she slid low, managing to successfully knock into T’Fearne’s legs, but she realized too late that she hadn’t thought through what her next step would be.
T’Fearne/Solana/Taj’el: Response
Wren: ::stumbling back to her feet:: Sorry, I- ::immediately gets knocked flat on her back::..... Okay, don’t stop to apologize, got it.
T’Fearne/Solana/Taj’el: Response
Delphina’s head was spinning slightly from the sudden movement. She was trying to focus, she really was, but T’Fearne was surprisingly good at blocking her thoughts. Rolling back onto her feet, Delphina tried to copy the pose T’Fearne was doing, but that didn’t feel right either.
This time, she waited for T’Fearne to move first.
