T'Alia stared into the light of her duranja once more.  This one had been modified based on an approach one of the monks at the Dakeen Monastery had suggested to her father.  In lieu of an oil lamp at the center, a candle was placed in the holder.  The candle was allowed to burn until it was gone.  Once the candle was completely consumed, it was time to move on and end ones morning.

T'Alia had begun this process after she had recovered from the plague she'd contracted on the Compass Rose, but when the first candle was gone, it felt too soon to let go of so many people, so she'd lit another candle and then another.  Now wax had filled the holder and dripped down onto the base of the duranja creating piles and rivulets of colored wax.  The structures looked organic, like something grown from the ground or created by insects.  T'Alia stared into the candlelight once more.

Dohna: Do not let them walk alone... guide them on their journey... protect... the crew of the Compass Rone ... Take them into the gates of heaven…

T'Alia took a breath and rose the current candle was halfway consumed and her older brother Prylar had already chided her for continuing to morn for so long.  He meant well of course, but how could he understand the loss of an entire crew.  As a Starfleet Ranger, he was self-sufficient and had little more than acquaintances in the fleet.  It was not like serving on a ship where the entire crew was like a family.

An alert chimed and T'Alia remembered she was supposed to be meeting Xira.  She hurried to head to the

Akani: Hi.

T'Alia offered Xira a warm smile.  It was nice to have someone who had shared her experience to talk to.  It also helped that they had a shared heritage and faith in common.  She gave Xira a pat on the shoulder.

Dohna: Good morning.

T'Alia had grabbed a mug of spiced chia on the way to the table and now she blew on it softly to help it cool down.  Her mother always noted that the blowing did not do anything, but it had become such a habit that T'Alia did it anyway.

Akani: How are you?

Dohna: ::taking a quick sip::  I'm alright.  Trying to get into the swing of things here  on the Ronin.  How are you?

Akani: I'm okay… Slowly getting over grief of what happened on the Rose, and I think it's helped a bit with what happened with the alternate versions of Niac and Raga.

She thought back once more to the lamp in her quarters and the mountain of wax that had built up on the stand.  Even now she knew the candle was burning and the wax dripping down to add the bizarre sculpture.

Dohna: ::looking down at her tea:: I'm not even sure it registered, what happened to Niac and Raga.  I hardly know them.    ::pausing::  I still say the prayer before my duranja each day, for the crew of the rose.  I seem to be ::beat:: stuck.

Akani: Response

The tea had cooled some at this point and she took a longer drink feeling the spice tickle the back of her throat.  She felt warmth spreading through her.

Dohna: Perhaps a holographic visit to the Monastery of the Kai would help.

Akani: Response

Dohna:  Vulcan holy sites are very boring. I went to P'Jem once.  ::smiling mischievously::  we had to leave because I couldn't sit still.

Akani: Response
