((Briefing Room, Security Complex, Deck 11, USS Ronin))
Xira silently cursed, with not much coming up in her search. She'd been at this for at least an hour, but hadn't found much.
Kessler: Akani, what do you have for me?
Akani: I'm sending over what I have now, but I can't guarantee it'll be helpful.
T’Fearne: We sifted through the submitted pieces of data gathered from other vessels. Nothing particularly stands out to me other than that interference pattern. If the interference is just part of the entity’s biological function, then matching frequencies with the interference may allow the Ronin to approach closer without triggering a defensive response.
Evirude: ::With an impressed look.:: You're thinking to shield us from its senses by blending in with its own emissions?
Venn: It seems like it might work, sir. But I’m not making any guarantees. Until Science can provide us with more data, I wouldn’t know if it would be effective or not. But on the surface, I would say it could work. Worst case, we adjust some parameters once we have more data.
Xira said nothing, but nodded.
Kessler: I like the thought process. Hide in plain sight.
She listened carefully to the others reports, thinking on what the implications could mean for their defensive measures. They had torpedoes, phasers, the ability to create a gravimetric pulse and several other options.
T’Fearne: One of the offensive options I’ve come up with should we need it is the equivalent of a flash bang. We have the ability to create a large gravimetric pulse. That should get its attention. A sufficiently powerful pulse may encourage it to withdraw.
Evirude: ::Tone respectful.:: Do we have confirmed intel on that, sir? For all we know, it's a predator that uses gravimetric pulses to track its prey.
Evinrude turned to Venn to ask the question.
Evinrude: Has it responded to any particular stimuli?
Venn: I have nothing else to add at this time, sir. There are a lot of good ideas here. We’ll just have to wait and see if any of them are necessary or useful.
oO But I don't want to wait. Especially if this thing is coming up quickly. Oo
T’Fearne: ::to Tess:: No data on that. Unless you count being photo-shy as a response.
Akani: What would work while we wait? It feels wrong, just standing here and waiting.
oO That's what got people killed on the Rose. I can't let it happen again. Oo
Her grip tightened on the consol in front of her, hands trying not to shake.
Akani: I… oO Shut up shut up shut up don't let sad brain get a hold. Oo If waiting is the only option, any idea how long we'll be waiting?
Evinrude: ::To Akani:: Ensign, if you'd like, you can help me finish a diagnostic on our main-hull torpedo battery. I just replaced one of the tractor micro-emitters in the torpedo conveyor system, and I want to see how the new part responds to a simulated load.
Akani: ::voice shaky:: Yes please.
A chirp from the PADD Chief Kessler was holding drew his attention.
Kessler: Lieutenant Venn, looks like we are needed on the bridge. ::turning to T'Fearne:: You have the lead on this assignment for now. Report directly to me if you find anything useful no matter how small it might be.
Venn: Yes, sir. On my way.
T'Fearne: Understood. I have this.
oO Come on. Don't mess up again. Oo
((Time skip - A few minutes later))
The diagnostic on the battery helped Xira a lot more than she thought it would. It didn't allow her anxiety to dwell on the possible ways that this contact could go horribly wrong.
She made a mental note to say thank you to Evinrude later.
A view of the entity happened to come through to the briefing room's central display, and Xira took a moment to guage just what she was looking at.
T'Fearne: I have the bridge main screen relayed he….::trailing off::
The Bajoran hesitantly watched the Vulcazoid as she drifted off, seemingly wonderstruck by the beauty of the entity.
oO Stars, it's beautiful. Oo
The bioluminescence was not something Xira expected, but she was fascinated by it.
She had to force herself to look a way and realised T'Fearne was just standing and watching the creature.
Akani: Uhhh… Lieutenant? You okay?
Evinrude: Response
T'Fearne: We are getting a much clearer look than the Jacksonville managed. It’s working. ::to Akani:: I think we can archive the non organic contingency plans and research. It looks like they were right about the biological classification, let's focus on that.
oO No doubt it's organic. Oo
Did one of the pulses… rock the ship gently?
Xira tried to continue her work, but she didn't miss T'Fearne end up kneeling on the deck, nose bleeding.
The ensign covered the distance between herself and the Assistant Chief in less than five seconds, face knitting itself together with concern.
Akani: Lieutenant T'Fearne? ::to Evinrude:: Is this common?
She had to ask just in case.
Evinrude: Response
Her face stayed in the confused form until T'Fearne straightened up, sitting in a position that Xira assumed was more comfortable.
T'Fearne: I’m alright. I think…I…::looking into Tess and Xira’s worried faces:: I believe the entity is aware of us.
Evinrude: Response
Akani: Did it… try to contact you telepathically?
oO At least that was my understanding of it… Oo
T'Fearne/Evinrude: Response
Was that a quality of the creature? Possible telepathic communication?
At this stage, Xira wasn't sure.
But it was something.
Akani: At least it's something we can take notes about regarding the entity. oO Entity? Creature? How do we refer to it? Oo
T'Fearne/Evinrude: Response
Why were her hands still shaking?
Akani: I'll take a look, maybe delve deeper if we have that information.
oO If I can find anything. Oo
T'Fearne/Evinrude: Response
