to USS Ronin – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Bridge, Deck 3, USS Ronin))
Wiping her sweaty hands on the sides of her uniform pants, Lt. Jg. Madaline Nicolau kept glancing between the helm controls, the short range sensors and the hulk hovering just out of weapons range on the viewscreen. She knew Lt. Cmdr. O'Connor, the ships chief helmsman and unrivaled virtuoso behind these very same controls, was currently busy trying to prevent some kind of reactor from turning this entire system into some kind of radioactive maelstrom the likes of which her friends in the science department seemed incredibly nervous about but she still wished he was here and she was....well...somewhere else. Possibly asleep. Or deeply drunk.
The Lattice Alliance ship continued to sit there...menacingly...and her hands reflexively went to the side of her pant leg as she waited to see what the Acting Captain would do...and concentrated very hard on not screwing up whatever it was. She watched him all but jog from the turbolift to the command chair, mercifully drawing her attention from the viewscreen for a few moments.
Kel: Lieutenant are you able to man your station?
T'Fearne: Response
Madalain hadn't spent much time in Sickbay so she knew their acting CO more by reputation then in person but he'd always struck her as a gentle, compassionate sort. The fact he had the composure to take the time to make sure his bridge crew was well put a small smile on her face...even if the ship was at red alert. Even if a warship was looming just over her shoulder.
Kel: Ensign Wren, I need a systems status update.
Wren: Response
Kel: Where is Mr. O'Connor?
The question seemed directed to her so she turned in the helm chair and spoke up.
Nicolau: I thought he was with one of the away teams, sir. Lt. Vomek asked me to cover the conn until he was back aboard. I hope that's alright.
Wren/T'Fearne: Response
The Captain's antenna curled in irritation and she rotated in back to the helm controls.
Kel: Who else is missing?
Nicolau: Uh...I believe Major Singh mentioned something about several of the Valkyries and one of the search runabouts vanishing....but after engineering did....whatever they did....I think they reappeared. Uh. Sir. With the exception of the away teams I'm not showing any of our runabouts or fighters unaccounted for at the moment.
Wren/T'Fearne: Response
Kel: OK. What's the status of this vessel that joined us?
Madalain gestured somewhat limply towards the viewscreen and offered a small and what she hoped was a professional shrug.
Nicolau: Holding position just outside of weapons range, sir, but based on their speed when they entered the system they could close that distance very quickly. I think....I think they're waiting for us to do something...or maybe they're just being jerks. Uh. Sir. Sorry sir.
Wren/T'Fearne/Kel: Response
Madalain let out a small sigh of relief and pointed towards the sensors.
Nicolau: Well that's some of the only good news sir. Whatever that pulse did stabilized spatial conditions around the ship...at least for now. We should be able to navigate freely if we need to without falling into a...space...hole. Sir.
Wren/T'Fearne/Kel: Response
