((Cinetastic Movie suites, Azure Horizon Beach & Spa, Lolagi IV))
Delphina glanced up from the film selection as she leaned against the wall of the suite. This had been a surprisingly interesting evening, starting with playing some violin outside one of the resorts, spending fifteen minutes talking to an Andorian woman about Vulcan film history, and ending here in a semi-private holosuite that the resort offered for family viewing nights and…. Well, dates. Distantly, she heard the Andorian who had reserved the room, Elysia, clinking around in the minibar as Delphina pulled up the holovids available.
Wren: ::excitedly:: Oh! I didn't know they had a copy of Bleak Whites! Which copy is it… ::scrolling through:: 647! I haven't seen that one yet. We have to watch it, it's classical Betazoid Atmos horror.
Elysia: Atmos horror? ::pouring some wine:: I've never heard of that one?
Wren: oh, you've got to give it a shot. Atmos horror is a genre that swept Betazed about seventy years ago when the latest remake of the Ring reached us. Over a thousand versions of the movie are produced, but each one is just a little different, so you never have exactly the same experience every time. It's also a Heartdropper, so they have random animation cels added as an overlay for certain frames, which makes the viewer subliminally aware of the monster's presence without actually showing it. It's a masterclass of both genres, it took eight years to film and develop.
Elysia: ::sitting on the chair across from her, offering Delphina some wine:: so, is it rare?
Wren: it's rare in the sense that I haven't seen this exact cut, but there are hundreds of each cut out there. No, there are only two really rare ones, and those got bought up decades ago.
Elysia: ::lightly teasing:: I didn't know they did film studies at the academy.
Wren: ::blushing a little:: Well, there was an attempted club, but I got voted out because they wanted ‘good’ recommendations. In what world-
Officer: =/\= Ensign Wren, please return to the USS Ronin immediately. Shoreleave has concluded. =/\=
Wren: ::surprised:: What?? But- ugh ::irritated sigh:: I'm sorry, I have to go, duty calls.
Elysia: Shame. ::earnestly:: I was looking forward to hearing more about old Betazoid horror genres.
Wren: well…. Um…. I'm sorry, I have to go. But if you're interested, maybe we can link up-
Elysia: ::gently waving her off:: that's alright, sweetheart, you go to your ship. But if I see you again, you owe me a movie night.
Delphina: ::hurrying out the door:: it was nice meeting you!
For a moment, Elysia sat in the room in silence, idly running a finger over her wineglass, before Delphina burst back in.
Elysia: ::calmly:: you forgot your-
Wren: ::not calmly:: Forgot my badge!
Wondering what in the four this could be about, Delphina dashed across the resort's warming courtyard, glancing over her shoulder before bumping directly into a familiar face.
Wren: Dahl! Sorry ::pulling him to his feet:: what's going on? I thought we had a couple more days?
Dahl: ::shrugging:: I don't know, I just got the update.
Wren: Chip’s on board, didn't he tell you anything?
Dahl: all he knows is that the captain hasn't said anything else yet.
Delphina stared at her fellow ensign, utterly baffled. The fact that they were cutting shore leave was strange enough, but to not say why? oO I mean…. He's the captain, I'm sure he knows what he's doing, right? Oo. And, while Delphina definitely wanted to believe that, there was a little part of her that wouldn't stay quiet that asked a slightly nastier question. oO well you don't know that, do you? You've never been on a mission with him before. Oo
Shaking her head a bit, trying to dislodge the not very kind thought, Delphina looked at Dahl, who shrugged. Letting out a heavy sigh, Delphina tapped her comm badge.
Wren: ::cautiously:: =/\= Ensign Wren…Two to beam up. =/\=
