The USS Ronin had become increasingly navigable to Taj’el. Essential locations—Sickbay and the shuttlebay—were now committed to memory, and a single excursion to the surface marked measurable progress from their previous shore leave. It was, by their assessment, sufficient to avoid further scrutiny from Doctor Saa.
They elected to begin a personal study on the medical applications of local flora within the Alpha Isle. Botany was not their discipline; it had been their mother’s. Taj’el had maintained distance from the subject for most of their life. However, its relevance to medicine justified reconsideration.
They prepared a field kit with efficiency, assembling sample collectors while reviewing a preliminary list on their PADD. The quantity of equipment exceeded practical limits, but they proceeded regardless.
Attention fixed on the data, Taj’el exited the turbolift under the assumption they had reached the correct deck. The error became evident upon impact with a taller individual. Their PADD and one of the sample bags fell to the deck. Taj’el inclined their head briefly, then knelt to retrieve the items.
Taj’el: Apologies. I was not observing my surroundings.

Observing him, Taj’el noted the yellow uniform first and briefly considered that he might be another security officer; however, uniform coloration alone was not a definitive indicator. At a glance, he appeared to be human.
Taj’el then bent to retrieve the bag they had dropped, lifting it back over their arm. It was not particularly heavy, though somewhat cumbersome due to the number of items they had acquired.
Taj’el: I was under the impression this was the shuttle bay level.

Retrieving their PADD, Taj’el stepped back into the turbolift to provide him with additional space. They advanced to the next image, reviewing it as a different plant appeared on the display. While they understood, in principle, that botanical specimens possessed numerous distinctions, many of them still appeared uniformly green to Taj’el.

They raised an eyebrow as they looked up at him, considering the possibility that he had noticed the plants displayed on their PADD.
