((OOC Fraslil and Lyrik are general NPC’s, canonically a Bolian science technician skilled at interpreting long range sensor data and a Saurian ensign who specialties in planetary survey. Feel free to use them or not as you wish.))

((Life Sciences Lab, Deck 10, USS Ronin))

The doors hissed open, and Rhodium wandered casually into a web of tension, eating a second pastry she had acquired. Two voices drifted through the lab in argument, one sibilant and the other sharp and irritated. She rolled her eyes. They were at it again.

Lyrik stood very straight and proper at his console, a soft throat-click punctuating his words as a stellar projection still set to Lolagi IV and its bio-luminessing flora turned slowly in the air beside him, throwing the lab into an azure glow. Across from him, Fraslil leaned into his station, blue  hands waving through the holo-projection as he gesticulated wildly.

She slipped past them without interruption, sliding into her usual station. Systems came online under her touch, databases opened in readiness, other programs were wrapped up. Responsibilities squared away, Rhodium flagged her readiness to her CO and then sat on top of the console, legs crossed, still nibbling the last of the pastry and eyes glinting with fascination as she watched the drama unfolding between the Saurian planetary scientist and the Bolian long range data analyst as they continued to argue.

Fraslil: If we had to snatch them up mid warp, then it has to be something actually important, you lizard!

Lyrik: ::throat clicking:: Why couldn’t it be that? It isss a perfectly viable ssscientific assssumption. Jussst becaussse I have not yet observed sssuch a phenomenon… doesss not mean it doesss not exissst.

Fraslil: Or…and stay with me…::Louder:: It’s CLASSIFIED and we’re not cleared to know anything yet.

While their bickering could be entertaining, Rho was more interested in what ship’s rumours had filtered down to Deck Ten about their current mission.

She let them continue for a moment before interrupting.

Wells: As much as I’d like to watch you two love birds twitter, there are more pressing and interesting matters unfolding. Tell me, have you heard any sub-space rumours about what this mission is about?

Fraslil: ::turning slightly purple with rage:: That is what we are arguing about! This cold-blooded, imbecile of a reptile thinks it's something to do with a giant space dragon.

Wells: ::brows rising:: Really? Why is that Lyrik?

From his station, Lyrik made a vocal clicked, his throat sack fluttering in nervousness.

Lyrik: We just transported two officersss aboard from a mysterious vessssel that matched us in warp, the rumour isss an astrobiologist and a ::seeming very nervous:: asssssspooook. It hasss to be something very important…

Fraslil gave a dismissive grunt.

Fraslil: I on the other hand think that it’s a contact mission with a species that communicates on the microbial level. ::conspiritorially:: and Starfleet Intelligence is getting secrets of other species from it, but they need an astrobiologist to help communicate.

Wells: An astrobiologist… and a spy?… arriving out of nowhere, and some sort of biological component. Excellent.

Rhodium grinned contemplatively at both of them. She guessed they actually enjoyed bickering and were doing it out of boredom. At least they were better at their job than guessing games.

Just then her comm chirped and that delightful blue creature Commander Kel wanted to talk to her.

Kel: =/\= Kel to Wells.  We have a guest Rhodium. Can you meet us in the life science lab? =/\=

Wells: =/\= Oui, Sir. I am already here… with Lyrik and Fraslil on duty. À bientôt.

She hopped off the console, swiped the crumbs with her sleeve, spun around and clapped her hands together sharply. Halting the argument that had continued in the background.

Wells: ::lightly accented:: Attention, boy’s, boys, you're both mildly intelligent. Now the Commander is coming with a guest to the ship, we are probably about to get the briefing you wanted and as much as I would enjoy his reaction to finding you two bicker like lovebirds, I don’t want you making him look bad in front of guests. Get to work.

She shooed the science officer and technician back to their stations with a flick of her hand.

((A few minutes later))

The doors opened with a quiet hiss.

V’Len Kel entered, looking dashing as ever and and now with a row of three solid pip’s on his collar. Beside him a woman, Human perhaps, with Lieutenant pips entered.

Rhodium stepped forward smoothly, a hint of a bow in her movements. Her eyes sparkling warmly as she looked from Kel to the newcomer.

Kel: Response

Wells: Commander. ::giving Kel a nod, then holding out her hand to Velis:: And nice to meet you Lieutenant.

Velis/Kel: Response

The El-Aurian’s smile widened a little.

Wells: Only speculation. We are eager to hear what mystery you have brought us. I suspect you are here with something far more interesting.

Velis/Kel: Response

Wells: We are ready to investigate, Planetary survey, long range data collection and analysis and exobotany are on duty today, along with your skillsets we have an excellent team of specialists at disposal. Where would you like us to start?

She discreetly clasped her hands behind her back and crossed her fingers. Hoping that Fraslil and Lyrik would contain themselves now that their CO was here.

Velis/Kel: Response
