((Lab 2, Deck 10, USS Ronin))
V'Len rubbed his chin and looked back at his model of the Reactor. He pulled up the schematic he and Esot had managed to get from the habitat command center. Within the reactor building was a large pit where the actual reaction was happening and below this a ring shaped particle accelerator of some kind. V'Len was hardly an engineer, but he had taken courses on basic Federation power systems. The facility had been originally Romulan, but tr'Kharis had made it clear there had been updates from the Lattice Alliance. Updates whose function were well beyond V'Len's limited abilities.
Kel: ::pointing to the ring:: I saw this on the viewscreen in the control center, it was as clean and new as if it hand only been there a day. ::pointing to the other systems:: These systems were in disrepair, but they were not aged like our probes. How do you suppose they protected the reactor components from the chronitons?
Zh'taan: It’s as if this ring creates a field around the reactor. The reactor emits Sencha radiation, but the ring allows the reactor’s structure to remain intact thanks to… a temporal stabilization field?
V'Len shook his head and made some notes in the model program.
Kel: That makes the most sense, but I've never heard of anything approaching that kind of technology.
Zh'taan: It could be possible that the temporal stabilization field generated by the ring is powered by an energy matrix. Based on the data we recovered, one might think that the ring draws chroniton particles toward its matrix, thus preventing them from damaging the reactor and allowing it to remain within our timeline. It’s as if the reactor is inside a temporal protective bubble.
Kel: Could the Tholian web technology come into play here?
The ensign paused to consider the question and V'Len felt slightly bad for asking it. At this point they were well into the weeds with irresponsible speculation.
Zh'taan: That would be likely, especially given what we know about the Tholians’ proximity to the system. And their “web” technology is somewhat similar to that of the ring… But I don’t yet know enough about this radiation.
Kel: I'm more of a life sciences guy myself, but we may have another resources. ::smiling at Kelor:: Sencha radiation gets its name from being who discovered it ::dramatic pause:: Sencha Niac.
Zh'taan: oO Sencha… Niac… those two names sound familiar.Oo Niac, as in Captain Karrod Niac?
Kel: That's right. We may need to recruit the Captain to assist us.
Zh'taan: Sir, I understand—you think the captain’s symbiont is the same one that discovered the radiation? That’s interesting…
Kel: I know it's the same one, and if I can play the guitar because my third host learned…
Zh'taan stepped back, perhaps slightly in awe.
Zh'taan: You’re right. I’ll contact him. It’s the best way to move forward. =/\= Ensign Zh'taan to Captain Niac. Would you be available to come down to Lab 2? We need your insight. End transmission. =/\=
Kel: ::hurrying to add:: =/\= They'll be drinks! =/\=
V'Len hoped that they were not disturbing Karrod too much. From what V'Len understood he had been assailed with padd work. Some of that work he was having trouble completing due to his being deceased. V'Len knew the captain enjoyed his Saurian Brandy and V'Len was not opposed to pulling a bottle out. He also realized they were missing an important discipline.
Kel: =/\= Ensign Wren, please come to Science Lab 2. =/\=
Wren/Niac: Response
As the pair waited V'Len and Kelor went back to their respective stations to continue working on the data. V'Len added some additional points to the model, trying to factor in the Romulan origins of the system. It was not long before they were joined.
Zh'taan: G-Good morning, Captain. ::straightens into an official posture:: Uh… I am Ensign Zh'taan, we would like to speak with you about Sencha radiation.
Kel: ::nodding his head:: Morning Karrod, Ensign Wren. Ensign Zh'taan and I were just trying to break down some of what we experienced on our last mission.
Wren/Niac: Response
Kel: Given the nature of the phenomena, namely that it was a Sencha generator, you seemed uniquely qualified to give us some insight.
Zh'taan/Wren/Niac: Response
Kel: Ensign Zh'taan, perhaps you can bring the Captain and Ensign Wren up to speed on our discussion.
V'Len felt slightly bad throwing Kelor into the deep end. Then again V'Len had been the acting CMO on a starship crashing into an ocean, and it had been a growth experience for him. Sometimes growth came in the heat of the moment.
Zh'taan/Wren/Niac: Response
Kel: My key question is how the hell were they doing it. How did they generate Sencha will still using subspace to pull energy to pull energy from a star in another universe?
Zh'taan/Wren/Niac: Response
