((Cargo Bay, Argo 'Medusa' - Parked in Main Shuttlebay of USS Compass Rose))

((OOC: Merging tags from Tucker's "Dust on the Bottle", as Beck's "Wish You Were Here" came first. Guess I'm going to name this sim after a song title, as well!))

Evinrude: =/\= That's right, we encountered it on the freighter - if this Ops officer could hazard a medical guess, it was engineered to carry the plague to as many species as possible...I see human and Andorian limbs, and, uh, several others. =/\=

He grimaced, remembering the thing's uncanny awareness despite being separated from its mechanical spiderbot half. Tucker gestured towards the stitched together mass of limbs, motionless behind the shimmering forcefield.

Tucker: =/\= As gross as it is ::pointing at the nasty thing:: I really need to see what makes it tick. Because this is cutting-edge tech, and it’s hard to come by, unless you’re the Consortium, apparently. =/\=

Niac:  =/\= I promise to let you poke and scan the horror canister right up until Starfleet Medical gets here...and you just know they'll want a turn. Along with Starfleet Security...and half the Daystrom Institute.  But before we start selling tickets we need a treatment.  Doctor Beck...were you able to connect with Doctor Kel and Lt. Syrex?  Have you been able to make any progress?  =/\=

Beck: =/\= I'm gonna want a chance to check it out, too. As for treatment… we are making very good progress, in fact. The antibodies we recovered from the samples you snagged for us, Captain, combined with the antisense RNA that Doctor Kel discovered should allow us to slow the infection and target the modifications in the virus to break them down. I am currently working on making sure the base plague won't take over from there. I haven't had a chance to speak with Doctor Syrex yet. =/\=

Tess couldn't help but worry at the mention of Syrex. The captain had indicated that everyone was accounted for, but "accounted for" didn't mean "well".

Tucker: Right, once we get this thing disabled, my team and I want first crack at it…sir.

The small, friendly rivalry between medical and engineering brought a faint smile to Evinrude's face.

Niac:  =/\= That's excellent news, Doctor.  Can you effectively synthesize the treatment in large enough quantities to handle the survivors on the Rose and the Ronin's entire crew? =/\=

Beck: =/\= I am fairly certain we can distribute the antisense RNA through the ventilation system, and it shouldn't take long for everyone to absorb it. The antibody is a little harder, but once I figure out the distribution, synthesizing it shouldn't be a problem. While I'm trying to sort that out, though, we should be able to do it the old fashioned way with a couple of hyposprays. =/\=

Tucker: ;;mostly to himself:: Thank the great Koala.

Nakada: Response (optional)

Solana: Response

The weight of that seemed to hit everyone at once. Marty shifted side to side with his arms crossed over his chest, phaser rifle hanging down his back. Leaning back against the side of the runabout, their captain crossed his arms and closed his eyes for a moment, relieved enough to be enormously tired for a moment.

Niac: =/\= Very well Doctor, proceed at your discretion.  We'll be standing by to take critical patients who can't be transported to the Ronin.  Oh and Quentin?  Don't forget to send someone our way with a few hypos, alright? =/\=

Quentin's voice sounded almost mirthful on the other end of the call.

Beck: =/\= You wanna volunteer to be the first guinea pigs, be my guest. I'll bring them down myself once I have a chance to replicate enough of them. =/\=

Solana: Response

Nakada: Response (optional)

If Beck thought they could replicate the experimental treatment, that meant there had been some successful preliminary testing. It meant they had a cure! Tess couldn't help but interject.

Evinrude: =/\= ::With an audible sigh of relief, he replied to Quentin..:: Beck if you need any assistance distributing one-off inoculants, I'll volunteer. And I'm sure more of the ops team would as well.

Once the jammer was down, a few reports from ops Crewmen Thakuri and Cousteau had hit Evinrude's PADD. There was a fair amount of anxiety over on the Ronin about the outbreak on deck 10 and the operations rank and file had been doing their best to keep things feeling normal, but they were yearning for some real work.

Beck: =/\= Right. Beck out. =/\=

((A short time later))

Once the away teams were treated - starting with those with compromised EV suits - it freed them up to do other things. Chief Tucker had one idea on his mind.

Tucker: I’m pretty sure someone owes me a beer!

A stiff drink sounded marvelous, but there was still plenty of work to be done.

Evinrude: ::Quietly, to himself.:: Miles to go before I sleep...or drink. ::Louder, to the group.:: I'm off to the triage center to help deliver these.

He hefted the small crate of hypos, slated for the away team that had been on the Rose the longest. Tess had volunteered both because the work needed doing, but also because it might give him the chance to see T'Fearne and the others.

The horrors his friends had seen...he wasn't with them, he could only imagine. But he hoped to be there through the healing.
