It had been a bit since Marty had gotten to sit in his own office. The last mission was one for the books, and Marty needed to decompress, and that would come later. The terminal beeped, Marty checked the message, and his face lit up. It was his reservations for him and Rox at the Celistial Tide Sanctuary: a room for two with a private stargazing deck and a meal or two at their fine-dining establishment. Everything was now confirmed, and they had a room awaiting. He still had to tell Rox, which would come after he was off shift. He downloaded the reservation and whatnot to his trusty PADD he’d had since the Academy, which, when he thought about it, seemed like a million years ago.

But he still had things to do. He grabbed his mug of raktajino and finished it off. They had a new engineer aboard that Marty had yet to talk to; he’d been a bit busy at the time. Though, based on the after-action reports, she did quite well for herself and was currently working on getting Niac back up and running. The computer, as always, was being a bit of a pain.

He tapped his combadge.

Tucker: Ensign Wren, please report to the Chief Engineer's office at your earliest convenience.

Marty went back to his PADD work that needed to be done before fun could commence. It was mostly reports from Morgan and her team about shrinking the temporal black hole. It was a brilliant idea, and he wanted to really expand on it. While still reading his PADD, he stood and returned the empty mug of Klingon coffee to the replicator and ordered another.

Tucker: Raktajino, make it a double this time…::under his breath:: I’m gonna needed::

He was almost to his desk when his door chime went off.

Tucker: Doors open!

Marty set down his raktajino and sat behind his desk. The door swished open to reveal the newest member of his Engineering team, Delphina Wren. He had her service jacket pulled up on his desk terminal, and he gave it the once-over, again.

He stood and extended a hand.

Tucker: Welcome aboard, Ensign Wren. Have you been squared away yet?

Wren: Response

Marty nodded and motioned for her to sit. He did the same and took a sip of his coffee.

Tucker: Well, what you don’t have yet, just get a hold of Gunnery Sergeant Knight, he’s our Quartermaster and will get you all squared away. Marines are effieciant and he’s been a godsend since he came aboard.

Wren: Response

Marty chuckled into his mug. She hadn’t been the only one to bring this up.

Tucker: Okay, okay. Here’s the deal: a bunch of command jerks bullied and kicked the science kids out of the Academy pool. So when it was time for them to take the pool for their water polo practice. ::he gives a sharp smile:: So I let loose some Risa Snapping Turles into the pool. I’ve got the holo’s around here somewhere, though I got into... pardon the pun, hot water.

Wren: Response

As Ensign Wren talked, Marty took a couple of drinks from his coffee and took some notes as well. And he was trying to figure out where to assign her. Though that was less of a worry with the ship going on shore leave, which was much needed after their last mission.

Tucker: I always ask this of my engineers. I encourage creativity and side projects. As you may have noticed, we have several workshops. If you have any research to do or want to tinker, please schedule some time and give it a go. Just don’t blow anything up, alright?

Wren: Response
