[Begin Act 2]

((Ready Room, Deck 3, USS Ronin, Ross-580 Gas Giant A, Moon Sigma))

V'Len stood before the monitor which now showed one of the moons of Ross-580's first gas giant.   It was relatively the same size as Jupiter in the Sol System and its moons were just as numerous.  Due to the gamma radiation emission, the Ronin had been forced to go the long way around and approach the moon away from the burst which would have damaged the ship irreparably.  Now close to the moon the emission burst was less than 100 km across and narrowed as it approached the surface.  The surface contained two domes, roughly 200 km apart.  The damaged one glowed violently as gamma rays, ionized gasses and other particles erupted from the exposed interior.  The other dome was undamaged and scans suggested it was some kind of habitation space to support whatever machinery was in place in the now damaged dome.

Kel:  The computer still can't make heads or tails of what's going on down there, but our new friends in sickbay have a significant amount of cellular damage. Whatever they were doing, I think they may have lost control.

O'Connor/Tucker: Response

V'Len had already started to implement part of a plan.  The teams working on the wreckage and data from the Kurosawa had concluded that the Niac and Raga they had seen killed were not in fact "their" Niac and Raga.  V'Len had sent a brief message to the Kurosawa asking for a progress report and giving a report on some interesting fungus he'd found in the Ross-577 system.  He'd given no indication there was a problem.

Kel:  We need to figure out what's going on down there.  Vomek made contact with their administrative center, I'll beam to the undamaged dome and try to figure out what they've been doing.  Mr. O'Connor I'd like you to take T'Fearne, Wren, and Shortrith to find and aid any injured parties.  Mr. Tucker, I'd like you to take Kessler, Evinrude and Nemes to assess what exactly they've put together over there, and how we can shut it down.  I've asked Counselor Dekas see what information he can glean from our guests in sickbay.

O'Connor/Tucker: Response

There was one more aspect of the situation that V'Len needed to bring up.

Kel:  Amongst the data transmitted from the Kurosawa before it exploded was a large amount of data about Sencha radiation.   I don't need to tell you how dangerous that could make this situation.

Sencha radiation had been discovered by one of Niac's previous hosts and had in fact gotten them killed.  The Lattice Alliance had made use of Sencha in order to make a weapon which the Ronin crew had only just managed to stop.  Karrod understood the most about what it was and what it did, with Alieth also quite knowledgeable.  V'Len knew little about it except to avoid it.

O'Connor/Tucker: Response

Kel:  I'm confident a lot of what we've experienced could be explained if these people are messing with Sencha Radiation.  ::taking a deep breath::  The situation could also get a whole lot worse.

O'Connor/Tucker: Response

V'Len stood up.  He needed to meet his team in the transporter room.  Major Singh was still working on the problem of finding the Shinano, and he'd given her a wide berth to do whatever was necessary.

Kel: Make sure you're all wearing Hazardous Duty Environmental Suits (https://wiki.starbase118.net/wiki/Hazardous_Duty_Environmental_Suit). There could be significant health hazards.  Keep an eye on radiation levels.

O'Connor/Tucker: Response

V'Len stepped out of the ready room.

Kel: =/\= Kel to Ensign Esot and Chief Solana, please meet me in transporter Room 2. =/\=
