Dohna: Lt. ool Morgan, will you get ready to initiate the warp field? I’ll monitor the pulse with Ensign Zh’taan.
She looked down at that at the pool table, making sure everything looked right, missing just one thing, and it could all go to dust in the span of a heartbeat. Everyone looked stressed, and why wouldn’t they be? This was either going to work or they would be without a deflector for several days, if not a week or two. And she’d rather not have to tell Captain Kel or Marty, for that matter
Rachel let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding.
Morgan: About as ready as I’ll ever be.
She watched as the gauge hit 100%
Dohna: Emitting particles now.
Zh'taan: I’m initiating a scan of the deflectors. ::Manipulates the LCARS::
Rachel, for her part, while nervous, was trying not to show it and not doing a great job at it. It was a risky manoeuvre and could cause problems and break the deflector dish. Her hands danced over the LCARS to keep everything aligned. Something was starting to unalign, and that was good.
Morgan: :: keying the LCARS again:: Something’s happening, and I can’t tell if it has to do with the deflector or the power we’ve been providing the surface with the power transfer, there’s some feedback building up, it’s not at a dangerous indicator, yet. oO “yet” pulling all the weight in that sentence Oo
Dohna: The emitter is working, but all the anti-chronitons are going straight ahead of the ship. ::beat:: Into the black hole.
That made Rachel scratch her head. She was sure she’d configured it to come not only out of the main deflector array, but all of the other deflectors to send out a pulse. Did it having anything with the feedback, that was still building up, but Rachel had been able to keep it from rising with some quick rerouting, though that would hold on for too long.
Zh'taan: It appears the black hole has moved closer faster than expected. ::He taps commands on the LCARS:: It’s less than 30,000 kilometers away now.
Dohna: Maybe we could rotate the ship?
The thought of the helmsman being told to do space donuts was hilarious to Rachel, and she couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Morgan: ::turning to Dohna:: I don’t think that’s going to help at all…
Zh'taan: No! ::He fell silent for several seconds, embarrassed…::
The Andorian’s voice made her head snap around, and then there was a silence. Rachel shrugged and went back to working on their feedback problem; it was getting worse. She was doing some creative rerouting but she was starting to run out of options..
Morgan: Not to alarm anyone, but I’ve got major feedback coming from the surface of that moon, which I think is also starting to muck with other systems. I’m going to have to shut things down and hunt down these issues or we could have a major problem on our hands.
Dohna Response
Zh'taan: Sorry… ::He steadies himself:: I’ve analyzed the scans directed at the black hole. It’s approaching faster and faster. But it’s our only way out if we manage to stabilize the warp toward the black hole.
oO Crap on toast Oo
Rachel’s hand flew over the LCARS, rerouting this, redirecting that, and it was still not helping in the least bit, and if she didn’t do something drastic and soon, things were going to get a lot worse before they got better.
Morgan: ::looking at Zh’taan:: I get that, but at the moment I’m also wrangling with the power transfer to the surface, we just can’t bolt out and sever the link like that. It’s already developing a feedback loop that, if I don’t get a handle on it, we’re in a world of hurt.
Dohna: Response
Zh'taan: And we must continue emitting anti-chronitons, at least until warp engages. They’ll be drawn in, but the chronitons will be as well. Warp will have to activate at the exact moment the anyons clear the chronitons around the black hole. At that point, we’ll have a window to leave the system. To do that, we must synchronize warp with the black hole at the moment it draws in the chronitons and the anyons.
Everything was starting to go pear-shaped, and it felt like Rachel didn’t have a handle on things. And she hated that feeling more than anything.
Dohna: Response
Zh'taan: ::He pauses for a few seconds:: Yes, it’s risky, but we’re caught between Sencha radiation and the black hole. That window is our only solution to leave the system.
Rachel could feel the sweat run down her spine, her eyes darting to the, for lack of a better term, big red button. It would shut the whole thing down, giving them time to regroup and try again. Because if she didn’t, she was going to overload the Ronin and blow out several key systems.
Morgan: The problem is, we can’t just leave the system; we still have three away teams on the surface, and we’re missing spacecraft, like half the Valkyries.
oO I knew I shouldn’t have gotten out of bed today Oo
Zh’taan/Dohna: Response
Rachel all but slapped her commbadge through her chest.
Morgan: Morgan to Kel, we’ve encountered more than one problem. I’m shutting down the power transfer now; otherwise, the feedback will overload several Ronin systems.
Kel: =/\= Response =/\=
Rachel hung her head for a second and shook it, causing her ponytail to swish.
Morgan: I know, sir. I don’t have any other choice. If I had other options, I would have brought those up first.
Zh’taan/Dohna: Response
Kel: =/\= Response =/\=
Morgan: Aye, sir. Shutting it down.
Rachel reached over and started the shutdown process, but in her time to talking to the acting captain, the feedback had gotten worse, so they were going to get hit with it.
Zh’taan/Dohna: Response
Morgan: Hang on to something!!
As if on cue, three different stations exploded in sparks and fire, setting off alarms, and the ship listed a little bit before righting itself. Whoever was in the pilot seat was on their stuff tonight. Several EPS conduits hung down from the ceiling. Luckily, the three of them avoided anything major, but some other crewmen weren’t so lucky, especially the ones whose consoles had exploded.
Kel: =/\= Response =/\=
Morgan: I didn’t get it shut down in time. We didn’t take the full brunt of that, but we still got knocked around a bit. I’ll have to get back to you, Skipper. Several systems are cooked, I’ll know more in a few minutes, Morgan out...
