((Cockpit, USS Rhine, Outside the J-0922A System))
Raedai: =/\= If it does not cooperate, we can connect the Rhine's computer to the complex's systems, pull up all the information while the active scan is running and run away. =/\=
Lorana: =/\= We’ll do our best, we don’t know what it is we’re dealing with yet. In any case, prepare for a quick getaway :: playful :: don’t get too comfortable in the pilot’s chair, Raedai. I’ll be expecting it back. Away team out. =/\=
Raedai: =/\= The getaway is already prepared. Whatever you do, do it quickly. Rhine out.. .=/\=
Alidar said, closing communications. He checked the position and configuration he had uploaded to the probes. Everything was in place.
The Rhine continued by inertia to approach the radiation output ports and where the Gormangander were feeding. Alidar let the ship approach until he saw no difference in the enhancement of the passive sensor readings over the subspace field. It had reached maximum efficiency for being close, there was no point in getting any closer, it would only endanger the ship and the mission. The ship emitted a single impulse to remain stationary with respect to the station, nothing in space was really still.
The away team continued to move deeper into the complex, but he noticed that he kept them locked on. Meanwhile, the away team's conversation continued to play over the communication system, filling the gloomy interior of the runaboat with sound.
Alieth: =/\= Lieutenant Raedai, can you lock our signals and beam us up as soon as we give you the signal? We are going to do something that will set off the alarms.=/\=
Raedai: =/\= I've been listening, Commander. You are locked and I heard we are taking something else with us. I'm isolating and preparing one of the computer cores for data. I remain on standby. =/\=
Isolating it was an extra precaution, if it were up to him there would be malicious code everywhere. The protocol for ‘abandoning’ something like that was to destroy it to avoid what they were doing at the moment. If they were that careless, it spoke very poorly of Starfleet, because such a foolish enemy was beating the crap out of them.
As for the Trill, I could only give him space to transport it and its tank, and if they got out of there, space to make him more comfortable.
Lorana: response
He heard them continuing to work while he prepared the warp core to give its maximum.
Alieth =/\= Lieutenant, have you got us locked? =/\=
Raedai: =/\= They have been all along, secure a marker for the new guest. You are deep in the complex. =/\=
He finished by reminding them of the fact.
Syrex/Lorana (optional): Response
Alieth: On my mark: one, two, three... NOW!
At the commander's signal she lit up the Rhine like a Christmas tree. The once dark space lit up and all the consoles displayed the LCARS. He activated the sensors and automatically the ship began scanning the subspace field and the Gormangander at maximum power. He didn't bother to look at the result, it was of little use to him at the moment and as the only crewman he couldn't do more things at the same time. They were the scans he would have done if he'd been paying attention, but now was not the time.
Syrex/Lorana (Optional): response*
As soon as Alidar detected that the tank was ready, he activated the transporters and was no longer alone. The away team was with him. Within seconds, the ship shook violently.
Raedai: They shoot at us with disruptors. Who said this place was abandoned?
The Romulan felt that the person who made it possible to beam people up without lowering shields deserved far more awards than he received. He returned fire, more to annoy than to create real damage.
Alieth/Lorana/Syrex: response
Raedai: Lieutenant Lorana, stay on this course. :: He pointed for a moment to some coordinates on the pilot's station screen.:: The probes are waiting for us, they will generate false signals from the runaboat, we will become 7 ships, they can't chase them all. They will be activated as soon as we cross the cloaking field.
He had programmed them to destroy themselves five minutes after they were activated that last time. Romulan protocol was to avoid leaving anything behind that could be used by the enemy. Still, there was a chance they would be pursued, they had to be quick.
Alieth/Lorana/Syrex: response
The ship was moving away from the complex, but the further away the more weapons were angled and the more hits they received. Some saturated the inertial dampers, one of the hardest hits caused the consoles to flicker, something in the bottom of the ship overloaded, causing sparks to fly and pieces of insulation to burn like rocks. The shields were holding for the moment, but not for long.
Raedai: reaching the edge of the camouflage field.... Now. Activating probes 1 to 6... Warp core ready.
According to the sensors converging from their position, 6 Rhines appeared, each going in one direction.
Alieth/Lorana/Syrex: response
Raedai: Out of the other cloaking field come several ships, heading for... probe 2... probe 4, probe 1... and us. It's a Tholian ship.
On the plus side, it wasn't one of the bigger ships, it was one of the ships they used to create the Tholian nets, a good weapon against starships of the usual size. But that ‘small’ ship was more than enough to take out the Rhine, being bigger and more powerful.
Alieth/Lorana/Syrex: response
