((Bridge, Deck 3, USS Ronin))
Renaie had to admit, they had thrown something across the room - and howled a bit, as Klingons tend to do when people die - when the news broke of what happened to the CO and XO. They had only been on the ship for almost six months, but those two had made a significant impact on them. It was the consistency, really, the similarity they had grown accustomed to since the transfer from the Astraeus.
The sickbay was silent that day, everyone clearing out to let Renaie examine the transmission, analysing the injuries - trying to find the finer details.
oO This was not when I expected… but this is what comes with being a medical officer. Oo
When Commander Kel summoned them to the bridge, they made a beeline from deck Ten without another word.
That still didn't extinguish the fire of anger and confusion - anger at whoever did this, confusion at how it happened.
They glanced over their shoulder at those who entered after them before dividing their attention between listening to Commander Kel and focusing on continuing injury analysis. He turned toward them and pulled up an image of the Kurosawa pre-explosion. Renaie didn't flinch at the injuries, but they saw that Commander Kel did, reasonably so.
Kel: Shortrith, look here on Karrod's neck and Toryn's shoulder. There's some kind of injury, but it seems partially healed. Are those burns? Dermal irritation of some kind?
Shortrith: It looks like third-degree burns, from the depth of the injury. My main confusion point is how the wounds healed so quickly. Maybe the chronitons that were initially found have something to do with it.
Kel: We need information in order to formulate a plan so I'm willing to look at any minute details for a hint as to what to do.
Wren: ::Clearing her throat, uncomfortable at having interrupted him:: Sir? The probes are almost finished scanning the area. There are Chronitons, like we thought, but they seem to be moving in a sort of orbit around the area where the detonation occurred. None of them have been beamed aboard with the rest of the wreckage.
Kessler: ::puzzled:: Those chronitons are showing some form of echo or displacement wave unlike anything I have seen or the Ronin's computer has seen.
O'Connor: Scientifically speaking… ::he raised one eyebrow and deadpanned:: Fascinating.
Renaie was inclined to agree with O'Connor.
Shortrith: One new thing after another.
Kel: We have one goal. Get Niac and Raga back and potentially save the Federation.
oO ::sarcastic:: No pressure. Oo
O'Connor: ::mouthing toward Kel:: technically that’s 2 goals. ::then outloud:: Potentially saving the Federation is what we do skipper. We’ll figure this out… although it’ll be Ronin style.
They turned to the newest ensign, a small pang of empathy for her being thrown headfirst into this as her first rodeo.
Wren: ::tapping at her screen::..... buddy , what are you doing? Um…. One of the probes doesn’t seem to be responding to the recall. I’ve tried the standard code, but it’s not responding.
Renaie frowned, staying silent for a moment.
Kessler: :: glancing over to Wren:: Try sending an Emergency Recall with the security code Alpha-Sierra - 0 - 1 - Alpha.
O'Connor: Jack, maybe get a tractor beam ready?
Kel: Response
Wren: Sir, the probe appears to have vanished. I’m no longer getting a reading on it, and the ship can’t pick it up either. We have the completed scan from the two that were recovered, but that third one is completely gone.
Kessler: Confirmed, the probe has vanished from sensors and optical view.
oO This is all gold shirt jargon… I'm the wrong shirt for this. Oo
Shortrith: There's no way that the probe could have gone through the temporal anomaly, is there?
Kel: Response
Wren: Sir, do you mind if I go to engineering to check on the probes that did come back? If something happened to the third one, it might be happening to the other two.
Kel: Response
Wren: Aye, sir.
Kessler: ::looking back to Kel:: Commander, until we know more about this phenomenon I recommend we maintain a safer distance.
O'Connor: Catch 22, boss. Sensors may not be as sharp if we pull back. I agree it probably would be safer from chroniton exposure back off but then again, who knows.
Renaie frowned. The chronitons were still there, lingering from the explosion. If one of the probes scanning it disappeared, theoretically the same would happen to the Ronin if it got too close, right?
Shortrith: Who knows what will happen if we get too close.
Kel: Response
Kessler: ::turning back to his console:: I think I can adjust for that. Give me one moment.
O'Connor: I’ve got a nice drop back position set If the mods work we…in theory anyway… be safe enough from any timey-wimey shenanigans…maybe.
Shortrith: So we'd be able to observe without any risk to either our wellbeing or our safety.
oO What's research without a little risk? That's what risk assessments are for, after all. How we'll manage risks as they arise. Oo
Kel: Response
Kessler: Adjustments made sir.
O'Connor: Nice, I don’t think we’ll have any resolution drop off when pulling back now. Orders, Cap?
Kel/Kessler: Response
Shortrith: Yes, Sir.
O’Connor: Aye, sir.
Kel/Kessler: Response
Renaie zoomed in on a paused moment of the transmission, still half-paying attention to the conversation.
Shortrith: Commander, I'm noticing some discrepancies in the finer details of the injuries, compared to my initial analysis.
Kel/Kessler/O'Connor: Response
Shortrith: So, you know how it looked like a plasma conduit had exploded on Commander Raga's face?
Kel/Kessler/O'Connor: Response
Shortrith: I'll be blunt, it seems to have left a deeper injury than a third-degree burn, which isn't surprising, but it's concerning.
oO What could have caused something like this? Oo
Kel/Kessler/O'Connor: Response
