((Cargo Bay A24, Main Module, Deep Space 33))

Hobart: Technically, it’s only extortion if I withhold treatment from you, Doc. We’re gonna fix you up either way. I’m just trying to navigate the sweet spot between you being stubborn while conscious and you being delusionally incompetent. I’m thinking we’ve got two minutes to make a deal.

Matthews / Jacin / Gott: Response

Behind him, Doctor El’Heem got to work on dreaming up some way to counteract an allergic reaction to the sort of drug one would normally use to counteract an allergic reaction. In many ways, medical seemed a lot like engineering, only worse. Way worse.

El’Heem: Orders sir?

Hobart: Unbreak my therapist, please.

Matthews / Jacin / Gott: Response

As El”Heem moved towards the plump Dr. Gott who was starting to turn a strange shade of orange, Nolen was suddenly filled with doubt. He held up his index finger. What exactly was the Ensign planning to give him? And how much worse could the situation get?

El’Heem: My hippocratic oath prevents me from withholding treatment any longer sir. I think you’ll find him to be more ::pause:: accommodating afterwards anyways.

Feeling not at all reassured by the medical officer’s final remarks, Lt. Commander Hobart watched as the counteragent was administered. El’Heem bowed before darting off, again. Still focused on Gott, Nolen heard El’Heem address Ensign Matthews and Lieutenant Jacin, and had an image in his mind of Doctor El”Heem flitting around the station like a ninja, throwing a syringe at each of the inhabitants like a shuriken.

El’Heem: Alright you two, bottoms up. For the Sencha radiation

Matthews / Jacin: Response

As the embodiment of chaos, wrapped in a blue-shouldered uniform, took off to victims unknown, Hobart looked Gott over. He was breathing, and his tongue wasn’t protruding out of his mouth quite as far.

Hobart: ::to Gott:: Doc? You dead?

Gott: Response

Hobart: That’s a relief. Now, I’m using the Billable Hours. I’m going to cram as many people as I can in it, and then it can go to warp. You can give me permission, and we can do it orderly-like, or you can object. In that case, I have more paperwork to fill out and I’m bound by procedure on who goes on it, and you don’t get a say.

As Gott weighed his options, now with a presumably unrestricted supply of oxygen to his brain, Dr. El’Heem returned.

Gott: Response

El’Heem: I think that’s everyone here! Now I just need to prepare-

Before their mad scientist could say another word, the floor beneath them lurched and launched them first skidding down the length of the cargo bay, and then into the air, before dropping them on the ground. Nolen felt the wind knocked out of him and he gasped for air as he pushed himself up off the deck. Their time was up, the Lattice Alliance had arrived, and begun their assault. The only question now was how many of the station’s occupants would stand and fight, and how many would evacuate.

El’Heem: Is everyone okay!?

Normally, Nolen would have liked to go around the horn, and have everyone sound off. But they didn’t have time. The headcount could wait.

Hobart: Matthews, how are we on the transporter?

Matthews: Response

Hobart: Jacin, the pattern enhancers?

Jacin: Response

Nolen nodded, and turned his attention to Dr. Gott, who was sprawled on the floor a meter and a half from Hobart as he stood shakily. He almost wanted to ask if the man was dead, again, but saw movement and once again opted to skip a step for the sake of expediency.

Hobart: What’s your answer, Doc?

Fortuitously, Commander Raga’s voice broke through the distant echoes of explosions and impacts. If Gott needed more influencing, he got it.

Raga: =/\= All teams, enemy transports are inbound to docking ports one and two. Prepare to repel boarders! =/\=

Gott: Response

Hobart: Fantastic. ::tapping combadge:: =/\= Hobart to Ops, we’re ready for evacuations through Cargo Bay Alpha-Two-Four. Send folks down as necessary. We’ve got a civilian ship lined up and we’ll alert you when it’s full and in need of cover. Hobart out. =/\=

Gott / El’Heem / Jacin / Matthews: Response

Hobart: Ensign El’Heem, set up at the door with what you need. Lieutenant Jacin, folks are going to be scared, so they’ll need a counselor.

Hobart glanced at Dr. Gott, realizing the implication that he wasn’t quite a counselor, but didn’t feel a strong urge to clarify.

Jacin / El’Heem / Gott: Response

Hobart: Let’s look at the transporter together, Matthews, and see if we can’t increase that resolution.

Matthews: Response
