to USS Ronin

((Main Conference Room, Deck 3, U.S.S. Ronin, Back at High Warp.))

Niac:  I know our situation is grave and the odds are long but I know this crew.  Every one of you is capable of excellence alone but when you work together...we can make miracles.  And I suspect we'll need a few of those before the day is over...but I believe it's within us to create our own luck.  Make sure your people know that...make sure they know we aren't beaten yet.  We are going to get back to Deep Space Thirty-Three, and we are going to help our friends.  Is that understood?

Marty nodded. There were friends on that station, and they needed a hand. He was flying the Ronin apart at the seams, and the extra five percent in efficiency in the Warp core had given the Ronin a little spunk as it sped forward at maximum Warp.

Tucker:  Aye, aye, Cap. We’re near as we’re going to get as far as repairs go; everything else will have to wait until we get a space dock and put in for major repairs. The speed we’re going in wreaking havoc on the hull plating, and the ablative armor is also a bit worse for wear.

Beck: Aye, sir.

O'Connor/Carpenter: Response

The Captain nodded and leaned back in his chair at the head of the conference table. He was trying to instill hope in his junior officers. There was a pretty good chance they didn’t see the other side of this engagement. But Marty was as sure as hell going to make sure that the Ronin wouldn’t go down without a fight. We will succeed; we owe everyone that much, especially the Ronin and Khitomer crew on Deep Space Thirty-three.

Niac:  Very well...thank you, everyone.  We'll go back to red alert ten minutes before we drop out of warp, until then make whatever final preparations you deem necessary.  Dismissed.

Tucker: I’m headed back to engineering and will start rotating crews a bit better. I want to get them as fresh as possible for our engagement at Deep Space Thirty-three.

With that, Tucker stood from his leaning position and headed out of the conference room. He first needed to return to his quarters for a fresh uniform and shower, and then he was back to keeping the ship from flying apart at the seams. The conference door swished open as Marty departed.

((Deck 14, Main Engineering, USS Ronin, At High Warp))

Marty stood at the pool table, refreshed and in a clean uniform. He was looking over the status of the Ronin since they were squeezing every last drop out of the Warp core. He could achieve much higher efficiency without setting off emergency protocols. Of course, he could override them with his command code, but he didn’t deem it necessary.

Now, it was time to rally the troops in engineering. It wasn’t going to be easy; in fact, that was the understatement of the century. Marty made a few notes in the PADD he was holding. It wasn’t like he was preparing a speech, but he needed notes. He flipped through the reports from the station, the Ronin, and the Khitomer. They all seemed as ready as they ever would be.

Tucker stood, grabbed the PADD, and headed to the pool table.
