Akani: There.
T'Alia moved to take Xira's hand. She had scrolled a list on the sand. A list of feelings, emotions and other symptoms that lingered after their experience on the Compass Rose. T'Alia could have made very similar list.
Dohna: ::whispering:: Well done.
Akani: What are you going to write? We've only got two minutes before sunrise.
Dohna: ::biting her lip:: I know.
It was a good list, but T'Alia seemed to have nothing. What was it that kept her lighting her lantern over and over. It was then that she remembered the famous words that the Emissary heard when he hand encountered the Prophets in the Celestial Temple, "You exist here."
T'Alia dropped to her knees and drew a circle with two columns above and below. She tried to add consoles around it as well as the various platforms around the area that was…had been…the Compass Rose engineering room. She remembered the beginning of the terrible illness taking hold there as she tried to do her duty. How she ended up in the outrigger she had no idea, but her mind often drifted back to the last moments of heat and nausea that she'd experienced in engineering.
She rose from the sand.
Akani: The engineering room on the Rose?
Dohna: I go back there a lot. It's like I never really left.
Around them people were moving away from the water and turning their heads toward the horizon which was no much more orange than it had been. The drawing scrawled across the beach took all forms and T'Alia was careful not to disturb any as she came back to the higher part of the beach.
Dohna: Sit? Stand?
Akani: I'd probably say sit.
She sat down cross legged in the sand and took a deep breath.
Dohna: ::staring at the horizon:: Jia'kaja, tre'nu'tol'a rem... La'por i'lanu kos... I'nar tan'a'tali nor...
((OOC: Italicised text is Xira speaking Bajoran.))
Akani: ::Quietly:: Protect the crew of the Compass Rose, let them not be forgotten… Guide them on their journey through the gates of heaven…
Dohna: Daran tareen.
Akani: Do not let them walk alone…
T'Alia offered her friend a warm smile. It had been a long time since she had prayed together with someone in her native language. It was a comfort. Now she stood on the shore as the fiery ball of the Logali sun broke the horizon. The dull gray tones of dawn were ripped away by the orange and red light of dawn. It reflected off the water in golden flashes that twinkled like stars in their own right.
The surf began to swell, slowly at first and then with increased tempo they crashed upon the shore surging toward the collection of words, symbols and drawings on the beach. It only took 3 waves to wash away the image of the Compass Rose Engineering room. After the fourth there was not even a fait trace of the outline where it had been. It was gone.
Akani: Seems like they're hearing us.
Dohna: ::staring at the beach:: Yes it does.
T'Alia remembered a phrase she'd learned. Not from a Vedek or a Kai, but rather from a friend at the Academy. "The future is not written, the past is gone. Only this moment is true."
Dohna: ::smiling at her friend:: I know it doesn't make it all go away, but maybe this morning is a good reminder that what we experienced is gone.
Akani: Response
Dohna: We can't go back and change it and we probably couldn't avoid it happening again. All we have is right now.
Akani: Response
As if the punctuate the idea the surf finally crashed up the shore far enough to douse the feet of the two women. T'Alia was only wearing sandals and she let out a yelp and jumped. Her feet immediately returned to the water, it was not cold, but it had been unexpected. She was sure her mother would find the reaction most illogical.
Dohna: That caught me off guard.
Akani: Response
T'Alia looked around. The many attendees were not heading away from the beach or playing in the surf.
Dohna: What do you think? Swim or Snack?
Akani: Response
T'Alia shook her head enthusiastically. She felt renewed and ready to see the world she was in at this moment in a way she'd not been able to do for some time.
