Zh'taan: Most of my research has focused on the effects of Sencha radiation on space-time and the disturbances it produces in warp fields.

V'Len nodded.

Kel: That's exactly what I don't understand. The Sencha radiation impact subspace and yet the reactor was able to draw in power from a parallel Ross-580 star. Certainly such a process required stable subspace. So, how did we stabilize the space around us to go to warp?

Zh'taan: When we attempted to stabilize the warp field, we discovered that distortion was impossible because of these disturbances, since Sencha radiation continuously emits chroniton particles. They desynchronize space-time and make it completely unstable. It was therefore impossible for the warp coils to activate properly. On top of that, the radiation produced an aging effect on certain materials. I am currently working on these phenomena in order to find a solution, starting with anti-chroniton particles.

Kelor stepped closer to the reactor schematic that Lieutenant Commander Kel and Ensign Esot had created. He tried to analyze it, to take every element into account, to search for the detail that could make the difference. But unfortunately, analyzing schematics was not his strong suit.

Kel: ::pointing to the ring:: I saw this on the viewscreen in the control center, it was as clean and new as if it hand only been there a day. ::pointing to the other systems:: These systems were in disrepair, but they were not aged like our probes. How do you suppose they protected the reactor components from the chronitons?

Kelor leaned further over the schematic, focusing particularly on the ring section.

Zh'taan: It’s as if this ring creates a field around the reactor. The reactor emits Sencha radiation, but the ring allows the reactor’s structure to remain intact thanks to… a temporal stabilization field?

V'Len shook his head and made some notes in the model program.

Kel: That makes the most sense, but I've never heard of anything approaching that kind of technology.

Kelor stepped back slightly and looked down at his PADD.

Zh'taan: It could be possible that the temporal stabilization field generated by the ring is powered by an energy matrix. Based on the data we recovered, one might think that the ring draws chroniton particles toward its matrix, thus preventing them from damaging the reactor and allowing it to remain within our timeline. It’s as if the reactor is inside a temporal protective bubble.

Kel: Could the Tholian web technology come into play here?

Kelor scratched his head. He hadn’t taken a break in a long time, and signs of stress and fatigue were beginning to show.

Zh'taan: That would be likely, especially given what we know about the Tholians’ proximity to the system. And their “web” technology is somewhat similar to that of the ring… But I don’t yet know enough about this radiation.

Kel: I'm more of a life sciences guy myself, but we may have another resources. ::smiling at Kelor:: Sencha radiation gets its name from being who discovered it ::dramatic pause:: Sencha Niac.

Zh'taan: oO Sencha… Niac… those two names sound familiar.Oo Niac, as in Captain Karrod Niac?

Kel: That's right. We may need to recruit the Captain to assist us.

Kelor remained perplexed. Unlike his superior, he was not an expert in life sciences and extraterrestrial lifeforms—a skill he would actually like to develop. And he did not see how the captain could help them.

Zh'taan: Sir, I understand—you think the captain’s symbiont is the same one that discovered the radiation? That’s interesting…

Kel: Response

He stepped back.

Zh'taan: You’re right. I’ll contact him. It’s the best way to move forward. =/\= Ensign Zh'taan to Captain Niac. Would you be available to come down to Lab 2? We need your insight. End transmission. =/\=

Kel/Niac: Response

The captain arrived a few minutes later in the laboratory, while the scientists were analyzing the schematic.

Zh'taan: G-Good morning, Captain. ::straightens into an official posture:: Uh… I am Ensign Zh'taan, we would like to speak with you about Sencha radiation.

Kel/Niac: Response
