to USS Ronin – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG

((Corridore Near T’Fearne’s Quarters, Deck 4, USS Ronin))

T’Fearne stepped out of her quarters with a small shoulder bag slung neatly across her side, her uniform still crisp despite the promise of shore leave ahead.

She had completed her weekly neural health scan in the xeno-biology lab with a nurse on duty, and now continued toward the shuttle bay. Medical orders were… clear. Someone, Dr. Beck probably, had left standing orders in her medical file to send her off for rest and recovery, particularly time away from duty. This time she would comply, happily and without complaint. She had seen the data packet for Lolagi IV’s five luxury resorts and natural flora phenomena. She was very curious…and she knew that most of the Ronin’s crew would feel the same and be down on the planet. Getting into mischief no doubt. Though she had friends and colleagues she intended to meet later, it was still important—on a crowded ship, perhaps more so—to take time alone.

Her Betazoid senses extended lightly as she walked, unobtrusive, brushing lightly against the ambient emotional current of the ship. Routine, anticipation, the underlying excitement of a crew preparing for temporary escape.

A faint current of curiosity and awareness flowed more directly against her senses. T’Fearne slowed her stride slightly as a petite medical officer approached. Her interest sharpened. The Ronin’s Vulcanoid population did seem to be experiencing something of an increase. She grinned internally at the thought as the officer addressed her.

Taj’el: Excuse me, Lieutenant. Forgive the intrusion; I appeared to have lost my way.

T’Fearne turned to face them fully, her expression composed. oO A very new officer if they don’t know their way. Oo

T'Fearne: ::reassuring:: No inconvenience, Lieutenant. Allow me to assist you as you are not lost on a starship. ::a slight tilt of her head mirrors theirs:: …just temporarily misplaced, perhaps. Let us correct that. ::a pause:: I am Lt. JG T’Fearne, one of Ronin’s security officers.

Her obsidian eyes narrowed very slightly, though her expression remained faintly pleasant and neutral.

T’Fearne: I don’t recognise you from the ship's crew manifest. Are you from Lolagi IV?

The unfamiliar medical officer glanced up at her, a neutral expression on their face, but there was a surprising undercurrent of emotions, too suppressed and complex for T’Fearne to read. She would have to get to know this officer to understand them better.

oO Interesting. Oo

Taj’el: I am visiting Lieutenant Junior Grade Taj’el, from the USS Thor. I must admit I had not been attentive to my direction of travel. ::pause:: Forgive me, may I inquire as to your heritage?

T’Fearne’s expression did not change, but there was the faintest shift in her posture, a deeper layer of attention had been engaged.

oO Ah that explains their presence. A temporary assignment. I wonder what their motivation is for asking that? Oo

A brief pause

T'Fearne: Greetings Lieutenant. You…may. ::Holding Taj’el’s gaze steadily:: I am Vulcazoid. A hybrid of Vulcan and Betazoid lineage.

There was no defensiveness in the statement, just a slight stiffness at being asked so abruptly. Her gaze held Taj’el’s steadily. As T’Feane responded, Taj’el pulled on a pair of gloves, similar to those she had seen worn by Commander Alieth. There was also a subtle trace of apprehension beneath the officer’s controlled exterior.

Taj’el: Forgive me if I have caused offense. I am actively refining my social skills.

T’Fearne inclined her head slightly.

T'Fearne: No offense has occurred, you are welcome to refine your social skills on me. ::Dry tone:: Though context is… helpful. Perhaps you could enlighten me on your intended destination before you became misplaced?

Her gaze shifted briefly down the corridor behind them, then forward again, mapping their trajectory against her internal sense of the ship.

Taj’el: Response

She turned slightly, gesturing down the corridor with a measured motion.

T'Fearne: If your destination is the shuttle bay, you will proceed this way. You are five decks above the primary shuttle bay access and approximately forty-three meters off the most efficient path. ::another small pause:: I am en route in that direction. You may accompany me if you wish.

Taj’el: Response

They began to walk towards T'Fearnes' suggested shuttlebay route together. T’Fearne adjusted her pace subtly for the medical officers' shorter stride length.

T'Fearne: I am also headed to the surface. Some… rest and recovery, on medical recommendation. If we are heading in the same direction, then perhaps you would accompany me down? We can continue to converse.

Taj’el: Response

The Security officers' gaze flicked thoughtfully over the other Vulcanoid. She tried a more subtle approach than her usual blunt interrogation tactics.

T'Fearne: ::conversational tone:: What has brought you to the Ronin, Lieutenant? And what is it you are seeking on the world below?

Taj’el: Response
