((Ready Room, Deck 3, USS Ronin))

Niac:  The Ronin has been through quite a lot in the last few months and it has forged this crew into an incredibly cohesive unit.  Work hard, trust your colleagues, learn all you can from them...because we're all we have out here in the black.  Understood?

Karrod didn't miss the small glances around the room as the young woman took it all in and wondered if he'd ever been that young and eager.  Niac helpfully responded with a torrent of memories of him being youthful, awkward and so unbridled in their zeal they probably should've been restrained.  Karrod scowled at himself and prodded his abdomen with a thumb.

T’Fearne: ::Her response was prompt and respectful.:: Affirmative, Captain. ::Pausing thoughtfully, she added,:: Is there anything safety-specific I should know about operating through a challenging region such as the Alpha Isles?

He mulled the question for a moment and struggled with a summary that wouldn't take up most of the Ensign's remaining duty shift but one thing rushed to the forefront of his mind.

Niac:  Whatever you do...don't put a scratch on the runabout Rhine.  Lt. Cmdr. Alieth has a fondness for that vessel that borders on maternal.  Compared to her the Lattice Alliance doesn't scare me half as much.

T’Fearne: Understood, Captain. I'll make sure to stay informed and prepared for the challenges ahead.

Karrod chucked and nodded.  He didn't know what the days ahead would bring but he had a feeling Ensign T'Fearne was going to fit right in.

Niac: Welcome Aboard, Ensign...I suspect you'll find your time on the Ronin...interesting.  You're dismissed.

T’Fearne: Thank you, Captain. :: Rising from the chair :: I won’t disappoint.

The young woman came to crisp attention and turned to leave.  As the doors swished shut behind her his gaze lingered for a moment and her last words hung in the air.  With all the danger that was lingering in the Alpha Isles and the larger dangers in Starfleet Command, he didn't worry about that young woman disappointing him.  He spoke quietly, the words a promise and reminder to himself.

Niac:  I hope I won't disappoint you, Ensign.

He turned his attention back towards his terminal and the infinity of bureaucracy hiding behind the display.

[End for Niac]
