((XO's Office, Deck 3, USS Ronin))
The viewport in his office offered an impressive view of the idyllic world they were in orbit with the recognizable bulbous shape of the Olympic class parked just beside the Ronin. The Blackheart had practically pushed the Ronin here, or so it had felt, with the earnest way D14 and their people had insisted, perhaps a little too eagerly, they follow them to the Farm.
It was during the trip here that Toryn had reviewed the reports from the crew about the plague and all of the trauma and difficulties that had entailed but it was one in particular that had stood out. One that he’d made sure to slide across Karrod’s desk at the top of the pile. One that had the imposing Al-Leyan pacing back and forth behind his own desk in front of the trio of men before him.
Raga: ..any one of you care to explain your actions on the Shinano now?
Toryn’s steel cerulean orbs locked onto the Junior grade Lieutenant for a long moment before he heard Tuck comment to Ian.
Tucker: ::just above a whisper::Is it me, or is Evinrude going to break something?
O'Connor: Response
Apparently, he was going to have to remind them just how good his hearing is, the pointed look he shot their direction would have to suffice for now. Evinrude took a small, rigid step forward and Toryn half expected his spine to snap like a wishbone.
Evinrude: Yes sir, I can confirm--
The door chime sounded then interrupting the Lieutenant. Without missing a beat Toryn spoke up.
Raga: Come in, Captain.
Toryn hadn’t seen anyone as stiff as Tess was in that moment since he’d had to dress down a contingent of Marines.
Niac: Gentlemen. Before we get into the subject of this meeting please bring me up to speed on your analysis of the Consortium's viral delivery mechanism.
Tucker: I’ve assembled a team that includes myself, Lieutenant Morgan, and a few of our top techs. I feel it’s going to take some time to reverse engineer or figure out how they put the damn things together. Although it’s inactive and largely inoperable, we’re keeping it in a level five containment field. Just to be safe.
Niac: That's a sensible precaution. The D14 people want a crack at it but I don't want to risk transferring it to their custody until we can be absolutely certain it doesn't pose a security risk. The crew on the Blackheart are medical specialists...I don't want to think about what something like a spiderbot could do to them before it could be stopped. Mr. Evinrude, Mr. O'Connor...anything to add to the Chief's report? As of right now you're as close as we have to experts on this thing.
Toryn shifted to stand with his arms crossed behind his back as he faced the three men currently in Karrod’s sights.
Raga: Spare no details. We want to make sure their Security officers have everything.
Evinrude/O'Connor: Response
Toryn studied them like a Seiuri owl and raised a brow slightly at Marty’s shifting. He couldn’t quite tell if it was boredom, fear, unlikely, or something else.
Tucker: I hate the fact that we’re going to sit around until they do it again. It’s not like we’ve made any friends with the Consortium, that’s for sure..
Ah, that’s what it was. That was something Toryn understood and empathized with the Chief. If he had it his way he’d be leading a strike team at the Consortium yesterday.
Niac: I appreciate that Chief. In fact, I spent about twenty minutes saying as much to the head of Starfleet Security just this morning...although I may have sprinkled in a few terms she'll have to look up in the linguistic database later. While they form a committee of experts to assess and analyze and strategize for the next few months they have at least sent a sector wide security alert to every Federation base, ship and colony and to every unaligned world with a subspace transceiver and ears to listen. DS33 is beginning mass fabrication of our treatment as well as inoculating everyone aboard and any ship that passes through. Within a week that treatment will begin distribution Federation wide. The Consortiums plans are well and truly upended and you gentlemen, and what you recovered from that freighter, were a big part of that.
Raga: Agreed. There were a lot of pieces to that particular puzzle and yours was a big one, so remember that. It feels like we rarely get to so thoroughly hamstring the Consoritum so revel in it.
Tucker/Evinrude/O'Connor: Response
And then the skipper’s demeanor changed like a blizzard right when you were meters from reaching the peak of the mountain.
Niac: Right now that's about the only thing standing between you and a lifetime of extra duty shifts in the ships mess. Lets review your mission report together, shall we?
Karrod tapped at the padd and brought up one of the sections he'd highlighted.
Niac: Ah yes...'after successfully disabling the Consortium device, the team fell back to the runabout and proceeded at speed to the Compass Rose where...blah blah blah...' Hmm. Perhaps I missed the part where it's explained in here how this team, after leaving on one runabout, somehow managed to return to the Compass Rose aboard not one, not two, but three separate vessels. Would any of you gentlemen care to explain?
Raga: Perhaps they managed to jury rig the Shinano so it has multi-vector mode? That splits into three completely different craft.
Tucker/Evinrude/O'Connor: Response
Toryn’s arms shifted from behind his back to cross firmly against his chest, equally unamused.
Niac: Oh I see. Well in that case perhaps you can clarify exactly what did happen. Because I would very much like to understand how, in the midst of a crisis, communication and order broke down to such a degree. And I'd like to understand it right now, gentlemen.
Raga: As a precaution I checked the diagnostics and the Shinano’s comms system is working perfectly fine. Nor so much as a text missive or data packet sent.
Niac/Tucker/Evinrude/O'Connor: Response
The Al-Leyan shared a long, emotionless glance with Karrod before that cerulean gaze swept over the three of them.
Raga: And that is precisely something the bridge of the ship should be notified of, regardless who’s there. I understand the reasoning, but the call and the responsibility should have been mine or the Captain’s to make and take. It comes with the pips.
Niac/Tucker/Evinrude/O'Connor: Response
