V'Len was more than a little unsure about all this. Officers in the Command team differed in opinion from time to time. There was always a debate over whether Operations or Engineering kept a ship going. On the whole the two groups generally got along, recognizing that the two groups complimented each other. V'Len had learned one thing, Security officers, whether in gold or red or green, were borderline crazy. That left Team Blue, science and medical, which on the surface should have complimented each other well. The Ronin's science team was perhaps overloaded with specialists in xenobiology and biology in general. Rather than complimenting the medical team with astrophysics, chemistry and quantum mechanics knowledge, his science team had a similar knowledge base as the medical team. It was a deficit V'Len was working to remedy.
At the moment however, V'Len was trying to put his best foot forward by meeting Alyndra for a little friendly competition. The sun was out and there was a warm breeze blowing across the field. V'Len was not sure what kind of competition Alyndra had in mind, but he did his best not to frown when he saw the 3D Chess board.
Syrex: I see you’ve come to lose.
V'Len noted the grin on Alyndra's face. There was no bluffing in Chess as far as he knew, but he also didn't want her to think he was an easy mark.
Kel: You seem very confident, considering you have no idea about my track record.
Alyndra laughed.
Syrex: Humility was not one of the lessons I got at the academy. I’ve beaten many eight-year olds at chess. The only difference between you and them, is that we’re in a field, not a hospital.
Kel: ::smiling:: Some of those kids in the Starfleet Medical Peds unit are very impressive players.
It did not bode well.
Syrex: So, black or white?
Kel: ::considering:: White would be fine. They say smoke comes before fire, go ahead and make the first move.
V'Len watched her place her piece and then considered.
Syrex: Response
V'Len moved his night forward two and to the right one placing it on the middle of the three boards.
Kel: How are you feeling? You were transported right to the Blackheart, we were concerned.
V'Len waited for Syrex to make a move.
Syrex: Response
V'Len moved one of his pawns forward, also placing it on the middle board. Now his bishop would be able to move.
Kel: Well that's not nothing. I've had isoboramine fluctuations before, it wasn't pleasant.
