((Lounge 47, USS Ronin, In Orbit of Ferenginar))
Toryn chuckled to himself at how much adoration this crew had for one another.
Niac: I promise that you’ll all be able to get yourselves a much earned drink soon. but we still have a bit more to do tonight. Ensign Ian O’Connor, Ensign Ico Ena, Ensign Vailani Zoyara and Lt. Jg. Luxa Lorana, front and center.
As the three of them came to nervous attention next to him, Karrod glanced towards his XO, who’d kept the small wooden boxes he’d needed disguised under a cloth. He began withdrawing them as Karrod turned towards the young men and women who had so impressed him in the performance of their duties.
Niac: One of the most critical duties of a senior officer is to recognize and nurture those junior officers under their command. It is a cycle that goes back to the very origins of Starfleet, with each new generation of officers standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before to reach new and unimaginable heights. Mr. O’Connor here has been the ship’s helmsman since our hasty launch from Deep Space Thirty Three, and his steady hands at the controls and deft sense of piloting has kept the ship flying in several situations where the computer would’ve said it was impossible. In recognition of his exploits, his skill and his growing experience, I am promoting you to Lieutenant, Junior Grade. Congratulations Lt. Jg. O’Connor!
This was definitely the best part of handing out awards. Extra pips and half pips. These particular boxes he’d kept hidden and eagerly withdrew them from beneath the cloth as Karrod went through his speech. They were held in order and he opened the box and handed it to the CO right as he stated his congratulations.
Raga: Well done, mister O’Conner. ::He nodded::
O’Connor: Response
The applause and raucous shouts approached volumes that Karrod suspected would do hearing damage to most species.
As much as he enjoyed the respect, the Al-Leyan winced from the decibel range the applause was reaching. The downside to having such powerful hearing.
Niac: Ensign Ico Ena and Ensign Vailani Zoyara , you have worked tirelessly in our operations department to keep the ship running smoothly, something I realize is a unique challenge aboard a ship as mature and frequently patched up as the Ronin. You have repeatedly demonstrated an ability to be at the right place and at the right time and have, according to the glowing recommendations I’ve received from your department heads, frequently gone above and beyond the call of duty. As such, I believe both of you have enormous untapped potential and I intend to see just how far it will take you. For your efforts and for your accomplishments, I am promoting the both of you to Lieutenant, Junior Grade. Congratulations, Lt. Jg. Ico and Lt. Jg. Vailani.
Toryn silently handed the box with the rank pips to Karrod.
Karrod pitched his voice down as he pinned the pip to Vailani’s collar and spoke just for her.
Niac: Old Tovan would be proud, Zoyara. I know I am.
He stepped back and turned to the final officer in line, her tail swishing back and forth and her ears pressed back.
Niac: Lieutenant Junior Grade Lorana…you have exceeded every expectation set for you or for an officer with your level of experience. Your personal performance during our last mission was incredible, as has been your efforts to protect the sanctity of life when it comes to our Tholian foundling. On top of that, you’ve demonstrated repeatedly that you have the temperament, judgment and ability to make difficult decisions with imperfect information without hesitation. You are everything that I could hope for from a junior officer, and someone who I expect to be a leader in Starfleet long after I’ve found myself some nice resort to retire to. With that in mind and in recognition of your steadfast dedication to your fellow officers and all living beings, I am promoting you to the rank of Lieutenant. Congratulations, Lieutenant Lorana!
The XO smiled at the Caitian and gave her an equally proud smile. She had certainly earned this solely upon her dedication to preserving life at least.
Raga: Congratulations, I expect nothing less from our second officer’s protege`
Karrod glanced around the room and at the smiling faces of his officers and crew, happy to be celebrating one another's achievements and the strangely wonderful family that the Ronin’s crew had quickly become. He nodded towards his XO in a prearranged signal and walked back to the lectern.
