Ryen: Lieutenant. It is a pleasure to meet you.
T'Fearne: ::returning the nod:: Ensign Ryen. Welcome aboard the Ronin. ::glancing at Kessler, brow raised:: A new member of the security division? Does he know yet the difficulty of the task he has been assigned to as security on a starship in the Alpha Isles?
Jack locked eyes with T'Fearne and gave her a slight smile. On his watch, not a single security officer would be unprepared for what the Alpha Isle's was to hand them but Jack could not help but wonder if T'Fearne was in her own way offering to be the Ensigns security mentor. That responsibility fell to Jack of course but he seriously thought about giving T'Fearne a go at the job just to see how she handled it. Maybe the next security officer who came aboard.
Kessler: I have no doubt that between you and I, the Ensign here will be more than prepared for what the Alpha Isle's can throw at us.
She nodded seriously, hands still clasped behind her back and Jack wanted to know what was going through her head. Her black eyes did not give much away and her Vulcan heritage kept her feelings from divulging any body language although Jack had been trying to learn any of her tail-tail signs he could.
Ryen: Lieutenant, have you always been interested in Security? I would love to hear your insights on what initially drew you to the field.
T'Fearne: Yes, ensign. I think perhaps I have been heading for this life since I was a child. Wanting to protect others while we explore the quadrant, rendering aid when we are called. For a while I entertained the possibility of a career in competitive fencing. I briefly trained in the Betazed Peacekeeper academy as a shuttle pilot and personal protection to Betazoid officials, but I found my way to Starfleet Academy and from there to the Ronin and the Alpha Isles.
Jack took in every word T'Fearne spoke. He loved learning about his officers and this to him was the best intel he and Ryen could have at the moment.
T'Fearne: What about you both? Chief, you told me when we first met that friendship brought you here. But what led you to Security and Tactical? And Ensign Ryen, why is this direction, of all those offered at the academy?
That was a question Jack had not thought about directly. His assignment to Tactical aboard the Thor had been one that was more out of necessity rather than the role he had thought he was getting into. The request by Commodore Kels to take on the Tactical officer role aboard the Thor was one that Jack had taken with all seriousness to prove his abilities and climb the ranks as fast as he could to get to his own command chair. Though along the way, he found that the command chair was not what he thought it was and had found a new more fulfilling time in Security and in Tactical. Like T'Fearne, he found the need to serve and protect others a greater reward than trying to race to the Captain' chair.
Kessler: ::folding his arms across his chest:: I had requested the role of Specialist when assigned to the Thor. Commodore Kels, my CO, thought my skill set would serve the Thor better in Tactical and thus began my journey here. I owe the Commodore a great deal to his vision for me.
Ryen: response
T'Fearne: Already you have made Chief Kessler's job easier by coming to us. I’m afraid he had to hunt me down with a shuttle on a mountain cliff, planet side on Proxima Sigma when he joined the Ronin’s security department as Chief of SEC/TAC and wanted to give me an assignment. ::gesturing with her PADD as though presenting the ensign:: You have presented yourself ready for any assignments the Chief may have. You will do well here.
Jack grinned ear to ear as his arms fell to his waist and he looked back on the moment he laid eyes on T'Fearne from the tail ramp of the shuttle hovering all those meters above the ground while clung to the rock wall. First impressions went a long, long way with Jack and her devotion to her pursuit that day was without a doubt the most memorable he'd had.
Kessler: ::still grinning and leaning closer to Ryen:: She also interrogated me standing on the loading ramp of a shuttle several hundred meters off the ground. ::throwing a wink at T'Fearne::
Ryen: response
T'Fearne: I only interrogated you because you had not verified your identity sufficiently to prove to me you were not an imposter at the time, but Captain Winters vouched for you and she seemed trustworthy.
Jack straightened back up and allowed his grin to morph into more of a shocked look as he glanced at T'fearne and then to Ryen. oO I see how this works. Oo
Kessler: ::looking to Ryen and then back to T'Fearne:: What? I don't seem trustworthy? ::looking to Ryen:: I think my feelings might have just been hurt Ensign.
Ryen/T'Fearne: response
Jack cracked a smile at them both. Humor was the best ice breaker he knew and as much as he was still learning T'Fearne and her sense of humor, he was sure she was also trying to break the ice with her own humor. That was something he loved and wanted from his officers.
Kessler: Well, I can say this ensign. You and I are in the best hands Security has to offer. ::gesturing to T'Fearne:: If there is anyone I want at my side in the darkest of times, it's T'Fearne and the security on this ship.
Ryen/T'Fearne: response
Jack nodded and looked around. Since the Ronin was on shore leave, the security complex was a little slower than normal but still staffed for emergencies. Several of the other key players in the department were out of the complex at the moment but Jack had no doubt Ryen would meet them all soon.
Kessler: We had a department wide briefing for all staff not on shore leave tomorrow morning at 0800 hours. I'd like to see you there so you can jump right in with both feet.
Ryen/T'Fearne: response
